Title: Winter Election
Post by: Cherrycrush on October 29, 2019, 23:02:33
Looks like we are set for a general election this Christmas and maybe we can have a nice discussion on it. Who do we think will be the Pm? Who do we want to win?

Remember to keep it nice  :)

It's Corbyn for me  XD

I would normally vote labour, but not with that Plonka in charge of them.

Tories have been in power for about 9 years straight and the nhs is still here. We won't loose it, they have said time and time again it's not going to be sold. I think it's scare mongering  :(

Tbf this has the same effect as not voting. It does nothing. It's all a farce anyway, whether you vote left wing or right wing, you're still voting for the same bird. None of them ever do anything positive for us regular working folk. Labour ease the burden of the less well off a little by borrowing heavily. Conservatives then come in and stick us in austerity measures in order to pay back the debt that labour built. And round and round it goes.

I will be voting, just unsure as to who I would vote for at this moment in time.

@Amy  @Dee

Trump has already said that he wants the NHS on the table as part of a trade deal with UK. Everyone's situation is different but for me personally a lot of my family have serious long term illnesses and they heavily rely on the NHS, they simply couldn't get treatment if the NHS is privatised. And even if they don't privatise it, the Conservative government has crippled it by under funding it the last 10 years or so. Looking at how bad the American healthcare system is, paying stupid prices like hundreds or a thousand pounds to get an ambulance is just terrifying.

The next few weeks will be interesting to say the least  :P
Title: Re: Winter Election
Post by: Amy on November 06, 2019, 00:37:32
Tories have adamantly stated the NHS is off the table. Could you imagine the uproar if it wasn't? Although privatisation of the NHS has been ongoing for years now, I highly doubt our government is going to sell the NHS. I really hope they don't, if they did, they would never be in power again, it would be the end of them. The cuts I agree have been awful, all thanks to the Labour party which left this country in terrible debt and with no money. Liam Byrne's note of "there's no money left" made that fact legendary.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2010/may/17/liam-byrne-note-successor?fbclid=IwAR0T5LCPcByq-nDwHt1cIdbH99-Uf6cYftKd7J5g0nDS_5WPJ6PRug9Ch6U

But there was also a global economic crisis as well, which made matters worse.

I am really unsure on this election. The way I see it is,

Conservative want to follow through on the referendum we had 4 years ago. Delivering what people in a democratic society voted for.
Labour continues to block what people voted for (even though labour are all about 'what people want') and is now offering a 2nd referendum. Honestly, if people still vote leave, what a slap in the face for him that would be.
Lib dem want to cancel brexit all together, which is even more anti-democratic.

So basically, if people want to leave vote conservative, if you want to remain vote lib dem. Labour just want round 2  #-o

It wouldn't affect my job as we're in railway maintenance, the nationalisation will be for the operators. But I don't see how they can do it, when a lot of the contracts are in place for the next 10 years.

Absolutely, Boris is extremely dodgy behind his quirky charisma. In his short stint as Prime Minister he has told numerous lies, the most infamous was when he was found to have lied to the queen. If he's prepared to lie to her, he'll lie to anyone.

I think that's a cherry pick of information. It's not that he's a racist, its the fact mps left because he hasn't bothered with resolving the issue in his own party, and felt uncomfortable. Hes a man with his own interests. He's a terrorist sympathasiser, who called Hamas and Hezbollah friends, and repeatedly refused to condemn ira bombing. He constantly blocks the vote of a democratic society, he has mps.. several mps that have left due to antisemitism.. that list goes on too.

I would vote for Labour, but not Corbyn. I don't think he will be a good leader  [-(

I wonder what else is going to come out in the news in the next few days  :3
Title: Re: Winter Election
Post by: Cherrycrush on November 07, 2019, 22:40:31
The last point shows that he has tried to combat it in his party, a lot of it in my opinion is a smear campaign by the big corporations who he plans to ensure they pay their taxes.

I don't think he is self interested, at least the lesser of the potential candidates for PM he is someone who's spent their entire life protesting for change and remained very consistent.

This is someone who has their own interests -
(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EIsJbqOWkAAHCNx.jpg:large)

Is she for real?  XD

I think the problem with Corbyn isn't the smear campaign stuff the media wants us to believe, it's how he will fund all his ambitious policies, like removing University fees.

And Conservative Pm's have also quit Boris Johnsons party since he became PM, I don't know how the numbers compare to labour's but they've both suffered. Although In my opinion I'm happy with the people who've left Labour, it will make them better in the future thats for certain  \:D/

He's a terrorist sympathasiser, who called Hamas and Hezbollah friends, and repeatedly refused to condemn ira bombing.

The whole terrorist sympathiser is pure spin and part of the large smear campaign against the man. This is a man that is a peace monger. If he came out and condemned any of them, they will refuse to speak with him, and he could no longer try and influence peace. I've never seen a politician receive so much hate from the media, they are quite obviously scared of him.

And ok the labour party has an anti semitism issue, but the conservatives have an out and out racist at its helm, who referred to muslim women as letterboxes and black people as piccaninnies with watermelon smiles. This is why I will not vote for a conservative party that has Boris in charge. I still don't know where my vote will land, but I can't cross that box for the tories as I have for the past 2 elections.
Title: Re: Winter Election
Post by: Amy on November 11, 2019, 17:55:37
I agree  neither of them are perfect. But as a party we stand a  better chance with the Tories. On the radio the other day, the radio presenter explained that Labour want to spend 400 billion pounds on investment, and Peter dowd, in  charge of labour treasury was asked, who's going to pay for this 400b pounds investment, he replied, well, the British people will pay for it.

So yes, Boris and corbyn are not great as individuals,  but as a party, Labour will drag us down the toilet.. again.

They also went against their 2017 manifesto of honouring the vote of the people. They have out right lied and have gone against what people voted for. I don't want a party like that in power.

So sad  :/

I know where they could save money instead of taking it from the NHS. Let's have a review of MP's expenses. The bastards are paid £80k a year, they then receive the same in expenses, and have a second house paid for whilst in office. Their pubs and restaurants are subsidised, and parking is free, yet we have to pay through the nose for the same luxuries in a hospital.

The thing that has hurt the NHS the most is the outsourcing of non clinical services to private firms that are only in it for the money, who hire anyone they can, that will accept shit working conditions and minimum wage to do a substandard job. It's no wonder MRSA is rife in hospitals.

Have you seen a hospital meal lately? Some £1 microwave meal that I wouldn't even feed to a dog, or a sandwich on the thinnest bread they can find, with next to no filling.

Nurses are overworked and underpaid, it's no wonder they all seem rude, they're probably all mentally drained.

And to top it all off, there are not enough hospitals in the country to deal with the amount of people that are now here. When was the last time you heard of a new hospital being built, without the shutting down of smaller hospitals?

This countries health system has become a joke. But it's ok, because the NHS can refer you to a private hospital for the same treatment, with shorter waiting times, better food, friendlier staff, free parking and pristine conditions. How much does it cost to send a patient to one of these services compared with doing it at a NHS hospital?

Our NHS was privatised some while ago, and it's only getting worse.

Oh I agree, it goes back to my previous comment about labour getting us into shit and tories coming in and getting us out of it again. But I think it's been a very rough time under this tory rule, and it's time for the people to get something back, and the only way they will get that is with a labour Government. At the end of the day we are the ones who build this country, we are the ones that make this country great. So why can't we get a little back for it.

I agree. Tory get a hard time to be honest, they try and fix the country after Labour's mess. And I agree it would be nice for us to have something back, but where's this money coming from, it will be coming from our back pockets. It's all a huge illusion. It sounds too good to be true from Labour, and it is.

Interesting turn of events last night -

The Lib Dem candidate in Canterbury @ThatTimWalker has told Channel 4 News he is stepping down and does not wish to challenge the Labour Remain supporting candidate @RosieDuffield1

However higher Lib Dems are insisting someone replaces him, every possible candidate has declined because it will help the Conservatives.

Deadline to select a new candidate is Thursday. There are four local Lib Dems who are approved candidates but not a single one is willing to stand. So the national party would have to impose a candidate on Canterbury from outside.

Seems a suicidal move from the Leadership of Lib Dems if they do replace him.  #-o

Labour are offering free full fibre broadband in every home by 2030, I really like this policy. It's very forward thinking, especially considering how Internet is essential in most of our day to day lives.

It would be expensive but potentially could create a lot more jobs, allow people to work from home (cutting down on pollution).

Only 8-10% of UK premises have full fibre broadband. Compare that to 97% in Japan and 98% in South Korea.

The radical proposal would cost a one-off £20bn, funded by £5bn already committed by the Government and an extra £15.3bn from Labour’s £250bn Green Transformation Fund.

Annual running costs would be around £230 million a year, paid through a new tax on multinationals - including internet giants like Amazon, Facebook and Google .

I have to agree.

Labour spoke from the heart I barely saw him look at his notes. He was respectful at all times.

Conservative he just read from notes. Made a lot of snide childish comments and didn’t shup up when asked.

As for the quality of replies Jeremy seemed to have more answers. I’m still unhappy about the amount of he plans on spending.

I didn't like how they only had a short amount of time to answer, I would have liked to hear more from both of them.

I found it amusing how Jeremy wouldn't answer the question, if he would campaign against his own deal or not, several times - MP's must be trained in avoiding questions.

I was hoping to learn something new, but it was all just a repeat of what they have said in the News. It wasn't much of a debate, I think question time is better for that!

Absolutely, the host ruined it.

I don't get the hate on putting his deal back to the public, I really do think it's the fairest way for the public to decide if we want the deal. I don't see it as him campaigning against his deal, just letting the people decide in my opinion  :)

Also, for anyone who hasn't seen this yet - Stanley Johnson, father of Boris Johnson, says "that requires a degree of literacy which I think the great British public doesn't necessarily have" when he was told that Boris Johnson has been refered to as Pinochhio.  Stanley then goes on to say that "they couldn't spell Pinochhio if they tried".

The constituency of Grenfell voted Tory after they blamed the firemen (who they cut numbers) and said that the people who burnt alive lacked common sense (jacob rees mogg).

Since then Corbyn has campaigned many times on behalf of the victims of Grenfell.

Not in a million years Corbyns fault, the people of England are absolute morons  #-o #-o #-o
