Hither Green: Relatives mark dead burglar's birthday

This story is continuing on from the following thread.

Hither Green: Relatives mark dead burglar's birthday

Mr Vincent's relatives arrived in South Park Crescent with flowers, cards, balloons and a banner

Relatives of a burglar who was fatally stabbed during a raid on a pensioner's home have marked his birthday at the crime scene.

A group of women brought flowers, balloons and a banner to where Henry Vincent died in South Park Crescent, Hither Green, south-east London.

Homeowner Richard Osborn-Brooks, 78, was arrested on suspicion of murder but released with no further action.

Tributes to Mr Vincent have sparked outrage in the community.

But one relative said today: "We don't want to cause any violence."

Officers tried to stop people stapling banners and balloons to the garden fences of homeowners

Since his death, residents have branded the tributes left to Mr Vincent an "insult" and repeatedly tore them down - prompting Met deputy commissioner Sir Craig Mackey to appeal for respect on both sides.

Mr and Mrs Osborn-Brooks are reportedly living in a safe house and plan to sell their property.

Floral tributes were pulled down from a fence opposite the home of Richard Osborn-Brooks last week

Mr Vincent, who was from the travelling community, would have turned 38 on 15 April

The women marking his birthday were escorted by five police officers, who tried to stop them stapling the banners and balloons to the garden fences of homeowners.

Eventually, the tributes were attached to a street sign and a lamp-post.

A 37-year-old woman, who did no want to be named, said: "We're here because it's his birthday, we just want to lay flowers. We don't want to cause any violence.

"We're not all criminals. We don't all do wrong."

Another woman said: "We all loved him."

I agree with the residents, this is insulting. The life of the elderly man is now ruined. I've read he has also received death threats, will probably have to sell his house and relocate just because somebody entered HIS house. It's really sad :'(

Just when you thought you couldn't lose any mote faith in humanity...People are the worst :-#

Going back to the topic though, I'd have to agree that it's disrespectful to mark his birthday outside of the house that he burgled. I'd be absolutely livid if I this was my grandfather in this situation, I'm sure many of us would.

This is so disgusting, go celebrate his birthday somewhere he loved, not where he died, whilst breaking the law. Them just being there is probably causing distress to a man that already has to live with the fact that he's killed someone, be it in self defence or not it's surely not a nice feeling.

I personally feel like this is a targeted act of intimidation and it's got me seething.

This is down right disgusting, they need to take this somewhere else.
Not only was this the scene of a crime, the older fellow has to live with a reminder of taking someone's life whether his was in danger or not in the form of this "shrine" on his doorstep.

Not to be that person, but 'traveller community'.

Like my knowledge isn't massive and is probably solely based on channel 5 tv shows, but from what I've seen the whole community is corrupt and there is always trouble.

Feel free to argue with me. I would rather be educated instead of ignorant.

I think it stirs hatred up by saying travellors, would they say a group of Muslims or English?  I doubt that.

But that's the 'go to' nowadays. The media will quickly jump on the ethnicity or commonly known term for people whether it's derogatory or not.
