Basic Hunter Guide
« on: February 14, 2020, 14:20:29 »
Hello, this is my basic guide to hunter! :)

Level 1 to Level 9 - Natural History Quiz (miniquest)

Completing the Natural History Miniquest in Varrock Museum will grant you Hunter and Slayer experience - enough to get you from level 1 - level 9 hunter.

There are no requirements for this miniquest. Enjoy.

Level 9 to Level 19 - Option 1: Feeding Ogleroots to Rabbits

During the Vinesweeper minigame, you can purchase an item called an Ogleroot to feed to the rabbits that spawn around the farmland. This is a decent method to get from level 9 to level 19 hunter. The ogleroots cost 10 coins each, and they are stackable. Each ogleroot fed to a rabbit grants you 30 hunter xp.

It would take 101 ogleroots to get from level 9 to level 19 hunter, and would cost 10,100 GP.

Without completing the Natural History Quiz (miniquest), it would take 149 ogleroots to get from level 1 to level 19 hunter, and would cost 14,900 GP.

Level 9 to Level 19 - Option 2: Hunting With Traps

The other option to get from level 9 to level 19 is to catch animals using traps.

From level 9 to level 15, you would want to catch Crimson Swifts in Taverley using a bird snare.
The Hunting Tutor in Taverley provides you with a free bird snare.

From level 15 to level 19, you would want to catch Ruby Harvest butterflies at the Piscatoris Hunter Area, just south of the Piscatoris Fishing Colony.
You can get there using the Eagle's Peak lodestone and running north, or you can use the fairy ring code ( A-K-Q ).
You must be wielding a butterfly net, and have at least one empty butterfly jar in your inventory to attempt to catch these butterflies at this level.

Level 19 to Level 67 - Multiple Options

Tropical Wagtail - Level 19 - Level 67
At level 19, you can catch Tropical Wagtails in the Feldip Hunter area, south of the Feldip Hills. This grants 170 base experience per catch (without any boosts).
The fastest ways to get there are either travelling north from the Oo'glog lodestone, or fairy ring ( A-K-S ).
These are caught using a bird snare.
Their stripy feathers are used for fly fishing rainbow fish, which as used as bait for barb-tailed kebbits.
It takes 543,980 experience to get from level 19 to level 67; this is the equivalent of catching 3,200 Tropical Wagtails.

Chinchompas - Level 53 to 59 or 63
At level 53, you can catch Chinchompas for experience, profit, or free ranged ammo.
Chinchompas are found at the Piscatoris Hunter area, south of the Piscatoris Fishing Colony, and north of Eagle's Peak.
You need a box trap to catch chinchompas, and a good deal of patience.
Using spicy tomato as bait increases the likelihood of a successful catch by 30%, which makes a big difference.
You can either switch to Red Salamanders at level 59, or continue until 63 to unlock Red Chinchompas.
Grey chinchompas award 198.5 experience per catch.

Red Salamanders - Level 59 - 63 or 67
At level 59, you can catch Red Salamanders.
Red Salamanders are located at the Ourania hunter area, west of the Spirit Tree near the Battlefield of Khazard, north of Castle Wars.
You must use a small fishing net with rope on a young tree to set up the trap to catch salamanders.
Red salamanders give 224 hunter experience when caught.

Red Chinchompa - Level 63 to 67 or 77
At level 63, you can catch Red Chinchompas with a box trap, also called Carnivorous Chinchompas.
These feisty, volatile creatures are located in the Feldip Hunter area.
Their preferred bait to assist in capture rates is Spicy Minced Meat.
They give 230.5 hunter xp per catch.

Level 67 to Level 77 - Black Salamanders *WILDERNESS*
BLACK SALAMANDERS ARE IN THE WILDERNESS - A PVP AREA. IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO RISK YOUR ITEMS, PLEASE TRAIN ON RED CHINCHOMPAS UNTIL LEVEL 72 AND SKIP THIS SECTION.
Black Salamanders, caught with a rope and net, are found in the Wilderness.

Level 72 to Level 77 - Charm Sprites
Charm sprites can be caught at level 72 Hunter with a Yaktwee stick and a Sprite Lure.
They are located south-west of the Tree Gnome Stronghold.
XP rates vary by type of sprite.
Gleaelg - 145.5 exp - yellow smoke trail
Tranart - 222 exp - orange smoke trail
Slithtils - 400 exp - purple smoke trail

Past Level 77
There are still many options for training hunter.
A popular method I found is:

Level 77 to Level 96 - Grenwalls with Crystallize
This MAY be outdated, unsure so far, but after Regicide, you can hunt Grenwalls.

Chinchompas - There are many skillchompas to be captured, and people pay well for them, making them a good method to consider when training Hunter.

Level 96 to Level 99+ - Ornate Tortles

Level 97 to Level 99+ - Crystal Skillchompas

Here is what I am planning to follow from Level 1 to Level 99:

Big Chinchompa - Hunter Distraction & Diversion - Twice Daily
This D&D can be done twice per day, granting you hunter experience based upon your performance.
Your reward increases with the tiers of colored moths you can gather.

I am planning to do this mini-game as often as I remember to, hopefully twice per day.
This event happens every hour, at half-past the hour (ex. 00:30, 04:30, 15:30, 22:30...)

I wish I was this organised. I sometimes log in and stand somewhere for hours doing nothing.
