Runescape Authenticator

RuneScape Authenticator

We know how much your account means to you, and we want to help you keep it safe from unsavoury characters out there on the internet. That’s why we’ve launched the new RuneScape Authenticator.

Free and available to all RuneScape players, in the main game and on Old School, the RuneScape Authenticator is the new way to protect your account, giving it an additional layer of protection against unauthorised access.

So, how does it work?

Setting up the RuneScape Authenticator is quick and easy, and is done via our website.
Once it’s set up, the Authenticator uses a code generator app - such as Google Authenticator for Android, iOS, and Blackberry phones, or Microsoft Authenticator for Windows phones - to generate a six-digit code.

You will then need to enter this code, when prompted, as a second step each time you log in on a new PC.

Then, you can set your account to remember your computer for 30 days, if you wish.

I don't mind them implementing this but they shouldn't get rid of JAG.

I would suggest that everyone sets up authenticator with their email account as well since your Jagex authenticator can immediately be reset if a hacker gains access to your linked email. This is a large security flaw imo.

What if I don't have a smartphone?
Mod Rascasse: You can install a code generator app on your computer. We are recommending that you do this on a different computer to the one on which you play RuneScape but this is not a requirement. There are various code generator apps available for Windows and Linux. WinAuth is just one of them. I haven't managed to find a compatible app for Mac OS yet (but at the same time, I haven't seen any comments from people who have a Mac but don't have a compatible smartphone).

I thought the authenticator was suppose to fill in the flaws of JAG.
Seems by Teknolla's part that the case is still there, so it's just the same,
much development, such waste.

If you have a gmail linked to your acc and got 2step verification to log in you shoukd be safe..

I am sure you can set up 2step with the same authenticator you set up the rs thing with
