Harvest Heaven: High-Level Farming
« on: May 20, 2013, 16:41:51 »
Harvest Heaven (members only)

It's a glorious springtime for high-level farmers, as today sees the release of ten new plants to grow, along with new produce and cross-skill training opportunities. With Farming skill requirements ranging from 76 to 96, and making use of some of the lesser-used plots, they're blooming handy for high-level training.

The ten new plants fall into two categories: those that yield produce when harvested, and those that grant experience in other skills (in addition to the Farming XP, of course).

In the first category, there are some familiar sights such as snape grass and potato cacti - available through farming for the first time. You'll also find some new plants: reed beds, which produce toads, swamp tar and swamp lizards, and butterfly flowers, which yield ruby harvests and have a chance to spawn a Guthixian butterfly, which grants XP in your lowest-levelled skill when caught.

If you've the necessary Construction skill, you'll also be able to build frames for growing grapevines, which - when harvested - offer a crop of godly grapes, aligned to Saradomin, Zamorak and Guthix. When added to water and fermented, these become wines, which can be mixed into the rest or brew potions of their respective gods, creating super Guthix rest potions, super Saradomin brews and super Zamorak brews.

There's also the wishing well bush, which yields its fruit in exchange for a sum of coins based on your total skill levels. Upon opening the fruit, you will find useful items of a varying value - up to three times that of the coins you put in - although beware that it is possible to lose as well as gain wealth from this!

See here for full details of how the wishing well fruit works.

In the second category, you'll find such wonders of nature as fly traps, which grant Thieving XP if you can snatch out their fruit with your fingers intact. There are barberry bushes too, which offer Agility XP to the nimble naturalist. Battle-botanists among you (we know you're out there) will enjoy the al fresco training offered by harvesting sunchoke tubers and prickly pears, which grant Strength and Defence XP respectively.

Note that the amount of non-Farming skill XP given by harvesting these plants is relative to your current level in the relevant skill.

Full details of all ten new plant types can be found in the wiki. Details of where to find their seeds can be found here and what you need to pay to have them protected from disease can be found here.

It's spring: the sun is shining, the earth is tilled, and you only reap what you sow. Get out there and get those hands dirty!

They look cool, but the majority of them are shit. I grew the flytrap one and the only thing it gave at the end was 810xp, I guess in thieving, no fruits, no produce from it.

Also grew the Wishing Well plant, 2200xp from it, cost me 350k to take it down and the reward was 80k in random planks and runes.

It sounds as if the majority of these plants, will fall similar to fellstalks...

Nice exp, crap money, crap usability... Its nice to have new stuff to farm though i guess

The patches for this update were nice, and all in all a semi useful update(only when compared to 2013 updates)...

"The rewards given from the fruit can produce a return value ranging anywhere from one-third of the value of the coins deposited to three times the value of the coins deposited."  sounds like a money pit to me ,-,

The RuneScape gamble plant. :| No doubt always going to be a loss except for odd occasion. I put 350k in, so surely my return should of been at least 118k ish?

Apparently that original quote was wrong, its anywhere from 1/4th to three times, not 1/3

I got 626 XP from the agility plant. I'm 99 agility, so it's probably based on your total level. I'd probably get quicker XP going to barb adv than running to patch to plant and harvest.

It takes like 3 minutes to do allof them so it's around 60k an hour. I haven't done these myself but this is what people in efficiency experts told me. The exp is just too low to rely completely on this to train. All the other ones seem like a waste.

Jagex should boost these. Especially when the requirements are so high

Seems like one of the only good updates in the past 6 months.... Although there is a 'money-sink' of sorts but idk, how many will pay it if it just gives crap rewards?
