Is this what RS has become?
« on: April 07, 2012, 10:58:51 »
Where Gp matters over everything?

I know I go on and on about Dungeoneering.  But I will the same way about anyway people make money without working hard for it.

Dicing/ gambling, staking, merching to name some.

I would replace "Become" by "is". Runescape has always been filled with people hungry for money at all costs. Mostly just the ordinary scammers.
I do see where you're coming from, but I try not to let it bother me too much.

whats that?

Smaller amounts of money, less than 10 USD/GDP being traded for ingame items, via services like paypal actually ingame. Requiring minimal clicks.(?)

WoW has microtransactions where people can purchase items for irl money.

Jagex could do it to make more revenue than macro companies.

Imagine being in jagex, spending all that money on the game, and having only a tiny bit given to you, sorry but i'm tired of all that whining about jagex being hungry for money, maybe they are, but i think this is because they spend it all on updates.

Very humorous if you think that's the idea, this isn't about Jagex being "hungry for money", it's about the players

Basically being able to buy Gp, items and levels directly from Jagex for real money.

I don't even.

That squeel of fortune wheel update's really worthwhile and not for money purposes at all.

I also ride 6 camels to my work for funzies.

It's sad but I agree with Stijn, this IS what the game is now.

However, I make sure to not get myself involved with that aspect of the game - it keeps me happy. :)

I want the old RuneScape back, where it was about fun and not just about money and (quick) 99s.

I am in the category of players who no longer skill for money. Since December, I have flipped approximately 800m, however, I do not hoard items to manipulate the market. I never attempt to sell items over- or underpriced (as seen with people trading on "the street"). It may not justify that I make money with little effort, but I still feel that I have worked hard for my accomplishments. E.g., I farmed my own herbs for 99 herblore and did several of the expensive "buyables" profitably. I have no intentions of spending money on quick XP nor do I do it for monetary control. I only do it because I want another partyhat, which I am not sure I could achieve without market investments, i.e., by pure skilling. I suppose striving for wealth could be derived from greed, but wealth in itself is a subjective measure (perhaps to justify the nature to aspire for more); albeit fairly prosperous, I do not view myself as a rich player.

As far as gambling and staking is concerned, as long as no one is being cheated, I try not to pay heed.  I know most of the gamblers/stakers will be cleaned in due time anyway; easy come, easy go. Even with chance in favour, most of the hosts have little, if any, understanding of probability theory or "bankroll management". I shrug off their achievements of sheer luck. I can respect people for wanting to gamble for fun, but buying XP for the gain from it (especially if somewhat unwittingly acquired), their 99s and whatnot are devalued. They know it too, if they can relate to hard work.
