I can't see this putting a stop to gold farmers. Say bonds were worth 1m each by next week, Jagex are selling gp at £3/m. Gold farmers will just try to undercut them to give a better deal, and in order to make up for their losses will just set up even more bots.. I hope this doesn't happen though.

I am shocked to hear 50% of the community are RWTers though, although it is hardly surprising when you see people make new accs and they have like 300m in the first week..

Their statistics.  I don't believe them.  The 90%sof is if you have ever done a spin on your account. The other one. Calling bs. Max of maybe 10-15%?

I believe this analysis is spot on:

A smart attempt on Jagex's part. Many people refuse or simply cannot afford to purchase membership or spins - so what do you do? Capitalize on the market and make money!

This, of course, will be a godsend update for those who wish to participate with these updates, and due to the lack of their IRL finances, are unable to do so. This, essentially, solves the problem of "IRL success does not define who you are in RuneScape."

Too bad that only applies to *one* person of the trade.

A player still has to buy the bonds using real-world money and trade them for items/wealth that other players had to have *legitimately* earned. You have essentially created "fake value" in such a manner that players can purchase gold, items, etc, for real life money.

This officially marks RuneScape as a pay-to-win game. Can't afford a set of armour? Buy a few bonds, trade it for gold to someone who wants spins, use said GP to buy armour.

Is this not gold selling?

Does this not hurt players who have to legitimately earn this gear? What about the players who have to spend hundreds of hours training their skill to be able to earn this stuff?

If you truly cared, this would be a paramount reason to never release such an update.

This does not combat RWT. This simply allows players to do it legally without getting Jagex into financial trouble with credit card companies.

I think it's pretty clear where the direction of the game is headed, for quite some time now, but it is unfortunate that it's had to step to this low.

Membership officially cancelled. Info regarding my moderator status should arrive in your inbox soon.

Good luck RuneScapians on your adventures.

(this was posted by a forum mod) I shall still continue to play the game until it dies...but I agree with this completely, I believe it's simply a way of selling gold.

This is another way of making money for Jagex, they do not care about combating real world trading.

I have lost all respect for jagex as a company, I know they are a business and need to make money

Its another nail in the coffin for Runescape for me Im afraid

1 month mems = 58 L.E
100 runecoins = 68 L.E

Ill calculate it when I get home and tell you

Quote
Bond usage stats

As well as seriously undermining gold farmers, Bonds have the nice side-effects of opening up availability for membership and allowing you to pay through play. Here are some of the headline statistics from the first week:

Over 3,500 Bonds gifted to other players.     Not relevant in the amount sold.
Over 10,000 free-to-play players used Bonds to become members.    Also repeated information.
Over 800 years of membership has been redeemed via Bonds.
Over 3,000,000 RuneCoins have been redeemed via Bonds.
Over 13 billion GP sunk into the Bonds re-trade tax.   Not relevant in calculating how many bonds sold.
Almost 10% of ticket sold for RuneFest so far have been purchased using Bonds.

  • Say that they've sold 25 tickets using bonds... tops... thats being generous really...
    35 bonds x 25 tickets= 875 Bonds
  • 800 Years of membership=20,857 bonds (14 days membership/bond)
  • 3,000,000 Runecoins redeemed, at 160 coins/bond=18750 bonds
  • This shows no data on how many bonds were used to buy spins, but honestly that is massively undervalued compared to the other options making this highly unlikely to have been mass used.

So,

875 bonds (Rfest tix) + 20,857 bonds (membership) +18750 bonds (runecoins)= 40482 bonds sold in week 1.

This would equal $202,410 at minimum, €172,048.50 at minimum, or £121,446 at minimum... and thats made only in week 1 of sales
