A Shortish F2P Guide
« on: February 06, 2013, 17:17:13 »

The intent of this topic is to aid those who are playing a F2P account or are planning on making one, and even those who aren't you might learn something useless from this, this could also be used a reference point for your own experience rates.

There are many different reasons why one would consider a F2P pure account over one of the P2P kind, namely 'the challenge' is a standard reason.  Yet there are others, such as financial reasons being a pretty obvious one. Not wanting to give Jagex your money for a game whilst it sounds kind of presumptuous is another valid reason, however no matter what the reason of choice or reasons, F2P is a challenge and as a goal of playing a purely F2P account the difficulty is a factor of your ability of completing your goals.

Personally, I don't care if someone was P2P for the free trial as long as they only trained their skills IN F2P, but even then I'm not one to care about trivial things such as that.

Before I really start writing this, as an advance warning if you find discrepancies between my figures and the ones you achieve this is based off of my personal experience playing a Pure F2P account for the past few years.

Differences between Members and Non-Members
  • As there is much less in-game content in F2P compared to members there are obviously less training options, this also involves less skills to train, 16 skills. Maximum of 1614 total with 120 Dungeoneering, and 1593 with 99 Dungeoneering.
  • As such the experience rates for ALL F2P training skills are far lower than the gains possible in members.
  • Money making in F2P can be difficult unless you are prepared to grind for it.
  • -In case I think of something else

Skilling and different methods to skilling

To start this section of this post I'll be starting with the things that I know the best and ending with the things that I am not so confident on - Could probably do with some help here, pre-writing it I think I'll need support.

Cooking

As a general rule when Cooking you should always be cooking on a bonfire, as there is a 10% experience boost as to when you cook on a range.
(click to show/hide)

As one of the consistently fastest skills in F2P, and if willing to pay more the fastest by a large distance Cooking is often the first 99 of many a player.

Burn rates

Not going to include fish below Salmon, as you won't be cooking them for long enough for this to be relevant to you.

  • Tuna - Level 63
  • Lobster - Level 74
  • Swordfish - Level 86
*You should never be cooking swordfish as long as you have urns, as lobsters are more experience.

Cooking is a skill where Cooking urns are a great boon and should be used every time that you are Cooking.

General training method for Cooking is to Cook the best things you can until you can do Salmon. Then Cook Salmon until level 63, then tuna until level 74 and from there lobsters to 99.

This is the invent you should use.  -Location of objects do not matter.

Extra notes and training methods

If you really want to spend a lot of money speeding up an already fast skill Wines are a doable method of training Cooking, simply use Grapes with Jug Of Water.
(I don't think it's worth the money as it costs ~6 gp/xp.)

IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER.

When using urns lobsters are ALWAYS more experience than swordfish.

On bonfires swordfish are 154 Xp. And on bonfires with urns lobsters 158.333 Xp.

Personal tips from experience

  • Kind of obvious but keep the items for your Cooking inventory next to each other in your bank, a good method is; With withdraw X = 25.

-ignore the bones, right click lobsters. withdraw X (25) click logs. If you have 1 urn in your inventory click urns. Close bank.
  • Whilst it sounds VERY trivial, picking up at least some of your ashes is actually a reasonable money making method as ashes are actually worth a decent amount
( I have about 5200 ashes from looting my own fires worth ~2m nearly)

Experience rates and sum up of methods

-Lobsters with urns on bonfire are 170k Experience per hour.
-Wines are up to 800k Experience per hour.

Cheap/Profit and reasonable experience Method: Lobsters.
Expensive and fast experience Method: Wines
Very profitable and slow experience Method: Putting anchovy's on pizzas / Cooking most profitable fish - often the low level ones.

Firemaking

This is a very brief skill, as there is not much to write about. Quite simply, light fires and put logs onto them as bonfires.

General information
  • Always do the best logs you can do
  • Fire spirits give extra money to the player and should always be taken as it is simply free money. The amount varies depending on level, but at level 99 the reward is generally worth around 1k.

Experience rates

Experience rates vary, as the experience gained for putting logs on a bonfire varies, by both level of the player and the number of other players using the bonfire for Firemaking.

[175 Base for putting Maples logs on a bonfire at level 99 Firemaking. 145 (?) base for putting Maple logs on a bonfire at level 45 Firemaking.]

Woodcutting

Whilst it can be a very boring skill, Woodcutting as to train it can be a very complex decision to make as there are many different options.

General Woodcutting

  • You can either Powercut or bank your logs. [technically you can also burn them as you cut them but that's not fun :( ]
  • Willows are always the fastest experience in F2P. Nothing else comes close to the xp rates from them.
Training methods

  • 1 - 15 is simply trees.
  • 15 - 30 simply oaks.     *Possible to train higher than 30 on oaks if wished, as not a huge amount slower than willows at low levels.
  • 30-99 Willows.    Sound daunting because it is.
Other optional methods

Maples are possible to cut on the resource dungeon at Daemonheim. Whilst slow the experience isn't terrible and if you are firemaking them as you cut them it's reasonable. But not worth banking them for money.

Yews are slow experience but decent money which makes them somewhat viable. The best spot to cut them is just south of the Crafting Guild and Melzars Maze. (Use clan vex and Dung ring to bank).

Experience rates

Willows tinderdrop method: up to 75-80k Xp per hour.
(click to show/hide)
Maples 40-50k per hour
Yews 20-30k per hour

-All with urns bar Yews

Fishing

Whilst Fishing looks as though there are many options to training it, fly fishing should be the sole method of getting 99. With all other methods being too slow or inefficient to be worth mentioning let alone trying.

Training

1-20 Do whatever the best thing you can do is. Also, the first levels for fishing are absolutely brutal and take ages.

Training methods

This is the fastest method for Fly-Fishing and gives great mage xp too.
(click to show/hide)

Also possible is using the action bar to drop the fish. But alching is still faster if you have combat.

Experience Rates

Alch Fishing is up to 65k Xp Per hour. As well as 50-60k Mage Xp Per Hour.

Dropping the fish is up to about 55-60k xp per hour. (still good)     -All with urns.

Extra note

AlchFishing is actually very consistent experience, my Fishing XP record in a day is 970k. And this took around 18 hours to do. Keeping a very solid average. And around 700k Mage xp, lol.  Expensive though.

Runecrafting

Not to say this in a I don't care about this anymore way, but, Runecrafting is simply Runespan.

If you don't know how to Runespan just look up a guide on Youtube.  (Pretty sure one on these forums too).

Crafting

Crafting has many different training methods, so this will be a very complicated section of this topic. Generally speaking Crafting follows the general pattern of all buyables, that if you want to be quite money efficient you have to be time inefficient.

The MANY methods

** My preferred method for Crafting is Holy Symbols. As these are reasonable xp and not very expensive.

Cutting gems is VERY expensive but is also VERY fast. I would only recommend Sapphires and nothing higher however as it just isn't worth the cost.

Also possible is crafting things like gold amulets for the profit, but xp isn't very good.

It is a good idea to look at prices and profits of different jewellery with gems as they can sometimes be good money.
Experience rates

When Crafting at a furnace, e.g Holy Symbols, you craft 1000 per hour as an average.

When cutting gems you cut around 3500 per hour as an average.

When making Gemmed Jewellery at a furnace you make around 700 per hour as an average.

[Neither of these are maxes but are solid averages to obtain.]

Dungeoneering

Sadly I have not tried Dungeoneering since the EoC was released so I cannot write a valid part for it. However this is an old guide on the forums:

http://consentus.co.uk/index.php?topic=775.0

More up to date, thanks to Aghast.

Prayer

The most expensive and theoretically the hardest skill for a F2Per.
At least the training method is very simple,

  • Buy big bones
  • Put them in action bar
  • Hold X key until inventory is almost finished
  • Bank
  • Repeat

The almost finished part is important as otherwise you get messages saying that you are busy for a few seconds as you try to bury more bones that you don't have.

Experience Rates

Big bones are around 70k xp per hour and there is no point in burying any other types of bones.

Smithing

Another seemingly complicated skill to train, however there are only so many valid methods that it narrows itself down quickly.

Sum up of training methods

  • Superheating. Is nice smithing experience, nice profit most of the time and nice magic experience. But can get boring very quickly.
  • Smithing normally. Very fast Smithing experience, almost always a big loss. *Always unless level 99 and smithing Rune platebodies. And semi-afk, you don't have long to afk but it's not solid clicking.
  • Artisans workshop, not very fast, very cheap *Sometimes less than 1gp/xp. And very afk.

experience rates

They vary too much for each individual thing, best to experiment with yourself :P

Mining

Mining is another simple skill, as you should only be mining Iron for experience, and if you ever change to something else it should purely be Rune for money.

You can either bank or drop your ores depending on your preference for some more money or some more speed.

Training Locations (Iron)

  • Rimmington Mine  *Dung Ring / Clan Vex Bank
  • Dwarf Mines    *Resource Dungeon bank

Experience Rates

Banking Iron - 35k Xp Per Hour max.

Dropping Iron - 45k Xp Per Hour Max.

Combat

The final chapter of this thread, At least until I decide on something else to add like FoG.

Training Locations

I'm not sure on where to train at low levels, but it shouldn't be hard to find a spot that you enjoy, but anyway I'll give some suggestions;

  • Hill giants
  • Cows
  • Al-Kharid Guards
  • Spiders in L3 SoS
For higher levels the best thing to kill for experience in F2P are Deadly Red spiders, the best location for these I believe is the Karamja Volcano, just before the secret door to Elvarg.

Experience Rates

60-70k Xp Per Hour at Red Spiders, for melee stats.

For Range I get around 40-50k Xp Per Hour here, I'm sure there is something better based on weaknesses and such, but I'm happy training at spiders.

Weakness of monsters.

Non-Skilling F2P.

Money Making

Money making in F2P is largely based off of skilling, as that's where the large majority of your money will both be earned, and spent.

But this'll try to include skilling methods as well as non-skilling methods.

From Skills

Combat

Kill things that give drops worth money;

-At low levels cows.
-At higher levels Cockroach soldiers.

*Not very good money, but the xp isn't terrible either so it's viable.

Smithing

1- Superheating.   Check prices before you start as only Rune is really any good for money purposes.

2- Smelting this should ALWAYS be profit so just pick a bar and go.

Cooking

Find prices of fish and cook them, most fish are profit so it's not hard to find a good one.

Firemaking

No not really unless you're willing to wait for your own fires to disappear.

Woodcutting

Yews. Only other thing viable to bank is willows and oaks and the xp is bad for oaks with not much profit. And willows are virtually worthless.

Crafting

Look up prices before you start, and make gemmed jewellery.

Magic

Superheating.

Tele Grab valuable items such as Wine of Zamorak.

Mining

Banking iron isn't great money but it's OK xp so can be done just for the extra money.   Rune is decent money but terrible Xp.

Fishing

Only lobsters, tuna and swordfish are viable money-wise but all are bad experience. (Minus tuna/swordfish with Swordfish Gloves from FoG.)

Whilst I did go off on a bit of a tangent with the whole explaining of the skills thing, this should hopefully tell you a bit about what playing F2P is about. And hopefully get more Pure F2P accounts~

I'll probably go through this thread at some point and edit it with stuff like more pictures and links and videos.
I'll also probably add more parts to the thread as I think of more.

Now I'll force myself to stop typing as I have been for 2 hours writing this, and I might end up hitting 2,000 words soon. :P

EDIT 1: Added Dungeoneering parts, Added skills Money Making,

I can help with the Dg portion of this shortish F2P guide.

1 - Binds:

Loadout 1 : Fractite Helm / Fractite Platebody / Fractite Plateskirt / Fractite Maul / Fractite Gauntlets

Loadout 2 : Bryll Hood / Bryll Robe Top / Bryll Robe Bottom / Air Staff (or Spinebeam Staff if you are member, but dging F2P) / Bryll Gloves

Loadout 3 : Air Staff / Bryll Hood / Bryll Robe Top / Bryll Robe Bottom / Fractite Maul

 - Most Dg Monsters are weak to crush, making the maul the most practical F2P weapon there is. Hybrid loadout (loadout 3), is the most used.
 - Bind Cosmics only if you are leading. If not, bind laws.

2 - Actual Combat

Ability Bar includes, but not limited to:
- Make Gatestone / Teleport to gatestone / Teleport to GGS (group gatestone) / Dungeon Home Teleport / Air Blast (only if leading, if not, Fire Blast)
- Combat Abilities: Wrack* / Impact* / Combust* / Chain* / Anticipation* / Freedom* / Momentum**
 * = denotes Basic Ability
 ** = denotes Ultimate Ability

Some terms that F2Pers use
 Keys -- Colors
- Gr : Green
- Go : Gold
- Cr/C : Crimson
- Bl/B : Blue
- O : Orange
- P : Purple
- Y : Yellow
- S : Silver
 Keys -- Keyshapes
- Sh/S - Shield
- Cr - Crescent
- T - Triangle
- D - Diamond
- P - Pentagon
- R - Rectangle
- Co - Corner
- W - Wedge

 Example
: Goco = Gold corner, Crw/Cw = Crimson Wedge

For maximum experience, this setup is used for floors
Floors 1-29 : Small (Repeat floors 12-14 x3, Cursebearer is glitched atm still I believe, so it's best to avoid him when at all possible)
Floors 30-35 : Large

Skip these doors/puzzles whenever possible
- Monolith
- Ghosts
- 5 Ferrets
- Switches
- Emotes
- 10stats

For best xp/h, skip all these rooms/puzzles, as they are always bonus.
- Ramokee
- Hunt Ferret
- Doors belonging to keys found in P2P rooms
- Mining room with several obstacles to get to the door
- Charge purple loadstone
- Any room behind a skill door that gives less than 210 or more than 255 xp

I can add pictures later, and can change anything.

I forgot to add a few things that you probably ought to know.

- Team gets an xp penalty if the cb average is below 140cb.

Xp rates :

- Smalls are around 70-90k x/h, maybe more.
- Larges are now 120-140k x/h, depending on times.
