Title: World Cup 2018 Sweepstake!
Post by: Krazy Golf on May 28, 2018, 12:39:26
Consentus World Cup Sweepstake

What is this?

The FIFA World Cup heads to Russia on June 14th until July 15th. Myself and @KGBx will be hosting a Consentus sweepstake in which you will be able to purchase a ticket and be randomly assigned one of the 32 competing nations.

We will be doing daily updates on the matchups, previewing the upcoming games, commenting on key players and who we think will win. Feel free to join in!

For those wanting to watch the matches, they should be aired in most countries around the world.

The draw and how to enter

Each of the 32 nations will be assigned a random number. All entrants will also be assigned a random number and you will be matched to a team.

The cost is 3M gp per ticket. Please pay all money to @KGBx.

We are hoping to have 32 individuals sign up but if this is not the case, we will open it up to purchase additional tickets.

You will have until Sunday 10th June 23:59 game time to get your name down. All money must be paid before the draw.

The draw will commence on Monday 11th June.

Prizes

All entrant fees will be added to the pot, totalling 96M! The pot will then be split between 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

1st - 60% of the pot, 57.6M
2nd - 30% of the pot, 28.8M
3rd - 10% of the pot, 9.6M

You are so unlucky with Spain. They are always one of the favorites but this year, let's just say their WC is done. Spain sacked their manager just minutes ago.

Teams full of leaders I don't think it will be much of an issue, Spanish legend took over anyway and he should be fine with The Team at his disposal

Thursday 14th June, 3pm game time.

The hosts kick off the tournament against Saudi Arabia who are at their first World Cup since 2006. Russia are heavy favourites to win this opening match, but their squad is weaker than in 2014. Can Saudi Arabia spring a surprise?

Russia (@kev pass) vs. Saudi Arabia (@Miss Mudds)

One to watch - Aleksandr Golovin (Russia)
Prediction - Russia 2-1 Saudi Arabia

What are your predictions? :)
Title: Re: World Cup 2018 Sweepstake!

Big win for Russia (@kev pass) there!
Title: Re: World Cup 2018 Sweepstake!
Post by: KGBx on June 14, 2018, 19:34:16
WHAT A START FROM RUSSIA

Russia @kev pass  5 - 0 Saudi Arabia @Miss Mudds

Golovin, with an impressive free kick, thoroughly deserved goal too, definitely could be Russia's talisman this year. Got a feeling some big clubs will be watching him during the month ahead. Saudi Arabia, did look dangerous at times, but lacked the final ball. Quick on the attack had some silky passing going on just couldn't find the killer ball. Russia just had that little bit of magic, great result for them.

Tomorrows Games!

Egypt @Aaron VS Uruguay @laralea

Salah & CO, obviously have the player of the year playing for them who seems to be NEARLY fully fit, if he is this could be a very interesting result, Egypt have some good talent here with players playing for big clubs. But Uruguay are no push overs themselves with a very interesting looking upfront with the man himself Suarez & Cavani on his day can be as good as anyone. Who will take top spot?
MY PREDICION A ENTERTAINING 1-1

Morroco @Cherrycrush VS Iran @Mini Nub

Fist game of Group B, comes with Morocco and Iran, who look like there will be the bottom of group with the others involved. So this is a must win for both teams to stand a chance. Morocco undefeated in 25+ games, which they have beaten teams like EGYPT & Serbia, so this looks like the odds are swaying in Morroco's favor. Iran also had a strong running in the group stages only losing to the big teams on the way to the world cup finals so we really can't knock them.
MY PREDICTION 1-0 MOROCCO

Portugal @Krazy Golf VS Spain @Only Lilly

THE BIG GAME OF THE DAY. Spain only sacking the manager 24 hours ago, could really find themselves in trouble here. Portugal obvisouly winning the euros 2 years ago will have something to prove hear. But what can Spain do here, can they pull out a stunning result. This is the one WE should all be waiting for tomorrow. Christano Ronaldo obviously one of the (if not the best) player in the world, scoring goals for fun in all cup competitions can he do this for his country? We will have to find out. Spain really need to go out there and prove that the sacking of the manager hasn't effected there confidence, it will be a very tough task.
MY PREDICTION 1-0 SPAIN

Saturday 16th June, 10am game time.

France have arguably one of the most exciting squads in the tournament, with good quality players all over the pitch. Runners up of their own European Championship in 2016, expect to see big things from the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann. Their opponents are Australia, a team who did surprisingly well in 2014, no thanks to their star man Tim Cahill. Will he be on form?

France (@Karli) vs. Australia (@Nikkielauran)

Ones to watch - Kylian Mbappe (France) and Matthew Leckie (Australia)
Prediction - France 3-1 Australia

Saturday 16th June, 1pm game time.

Finalists in 2014, Argentina have a long history of playing exciting football. Their squad is packed full of attacking threat including Aguero, Dybala, Higuain and Di Maria, to name a few. Not to mention their talisman and arguably the best player in the world, Lionel Messi. He has however never won a major international trophy, is this finally his year? Iceland make their world cup debut and represent one of the smallest nations to ever enter the tournament. After famously dumping England out of Euro 2016, their squad is known for it's tenacity and combined with an eerie simultaneous clapping in the crowd, an upset could be on the cards.

Argentina (@Only Liam) vs. Iceland (@Billy)

Ones to watch - Paulo Dybala (Argentina) and Gylfi Sigurdsson (Iceland)
Prediction - Argentina 2-0 Iceland

Saturday 16th June, 4pm game time.

Peru return to the world cup for the first time since 1982, after many years of struggling in qualification against their footballing giants of neighbours in South America. Drawn in a tough group, can they pull off a vital win here? Denmark are a team in resurgence, sporting a lot of young talent at this tournament. Names include Poulsen, Jorgensen and Dolberg. But they will still be reliant on the ever creative Christian Eriksen to provide the magic he does in the Premier League.

Peru (@JK) vs. Denmark (@Only Matt)

Ones to watch - Andre Carillo (Peru) and Yussuf Poulsen (Denmark)
Prediction - Peru 0-2 Denmark

Saturday 16th June, 7pm game time.

Another exciting and often under-performing team at the tournment this year is Croatia. A squad littered with talent to include Mandzukic and Perisic, but they have not progressed beyond the group stage for 20 years. The real talent lies within the midfield, namely in Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic, two very creative playmakers who operate in the Spanish league. Nigeria represent a transition to a young and exciting squad with rising stars and often make considerable headlines in the African Cup of Nations. One of the more consistent qualifiers from the African continent, Nigeria find themselves in a tough group and will see this match as a must win if they are to progress.

Croatia (@Tracie) vs. Nigeria (@Duck)

One to watch - Luka Modric (Croatia) and Alex Iwobi (Nigeria)
Prediction - Croatia 2-1 Nigeria

What are your predictions? :)

Sunday 17th June, 12pm game time.

Giantkillers Costa Rica return to the world cup after an amazing run in 2014, topping a group containing England, Uruguay and Italy. Their goalkeeper, Keylor Navas had such an impressive tournament that he was later signed by Real Madrid and is now one of the best keepers in the world. The team also boast some impressive attacking talent to include Bryan Ruiz and Joel Campbell, can they repeat the feat of 2014? Serbia have not progressed beyond the group stages for 20 years and this probably represents their best chance to do so. Their squad includes experienced players with likes of Ivanovic, Kolarov, Matic and Tadic. This is a must win for them if they have any hopes of reaching the knockout rounds.

Costa Rica (@KGBx) vs. Serbia (@Vincent)

Ones to watch - Bryan Ruiz (Costa Rica) and Sergej Milinković-Savić (Serbia)
Prediction - Costa Rica 0-1 Serbia

Sunday 17th June, 3pm game time.

Current world champions Germany make their entrance to the tournament with a difficult game against Mexico. Germany are in a bit of a trasitional period with the likes of Lahm and Klose recently retiring. They have an influx of young talent, which they annoyingly seem to consistently produce. Up and coming players in their squad include Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka and Timo Werner. Germany also seem to have solved their struggle for an out and out striker with the inclusion of Timo Werner and finally Marco Reus, the latter will be a big boost and should take some pressure off of Muller. Their opponents Mexico hold an incredible record of reaching the round of 16 at the last 6 tournaments and will expect to do the same this time around. A somewhat aging squad, the Dos Santos brothers continue to make regular appearances, spearheaded by their vastly experienced captain Andres Guardado. Mexico had an exciting 2014 world cup and shocked many people. Can they repeat this?

Germany (@Sissybear) vs. Mexico (@Cherrycrush)

Ones to watch - Timo Werner (Germany) and Javier Hernandez (Mexico)
Prediction - Germany 3-0 Mexico

Sunday 17th June, 6pm game time.

The most successful team in the history of the game make their first appearance on Sunday evening. Five time winners and always exciting to watch, Brazil have arguably the best squad in the tournament with multiple high quality players in every position on the pitch. Many pundits favourite to the lift the trophy, Brazil will also be looking to avenge an embarrassing 7-1 defeat to Germany on home soil in 2014. Brazil sport a wealth of attacking talent to include the world's most expensive player, Neymar. A lot will rest on his shoulders. Switzerland are expected to finish runners up in this group and have fielded players from many of the top European leagues. Their squad contains a lot of talent from the German Bundesliga and it will be interesting to see if they can continue this form into the tournament. Switzerland have often relied on the individual brilliance of Xherdan Shaqiri who can unleash powerful shots, famously scoring a hattrick in 2014 against Honduras. He will need to be on form if Switzerland are to do well this tournament.

Brazil (@Powerless) vs. Switzerland (@CGBx)

Ones to watch - Marcelo (Brazil) and Xherdan Shaqiri (Switzerland)
Prediction - Brazil 2-0 Switzerland

Like I said in-game already... I know nothing about this sport or these teams but I found out that Brazil is fantastic and I couldn't be happier lol.

Maybe this is some elaborate plot to get me to like it? *scratches forehead*

Tuesday 19th June, 12pm game time.

One of the major shocks in Brazil 2014, Colombia make their entrance into the tournament and will be feeling confident. Much of their 2014 squad remains with the likes of Cuadrado, Bacca and the return of Radamel Falcao (who sadly missed the tournament through injury). Last times Golden Boot winner, James Rodriguez is expected to light up the tournament once more and has found himself playing regularly for Bayern Munich. Japan are one of the more consistent qualifiers from Asia and always play exciting and fast paced football. The vastly experienced Keisuke Honda plays at his third world cup and will be one to watch.

Colombia (@Aquanoise]) vs. Japan (@Rebeca)

Ones to watch - James Rodriguez (Colombia) and Keisuke Honda (Japan)
Prediction - Colombia 2-0 Japan

Tuesday 19th June, 3pm game time.

Poland are another recently resurgent team and boast probably their best ever squad. Talisman Robert Lewandowski is one of the most clinical strikers at this world cup and a lot of pressure will be on his shoulders. Other strong players include Jakub Blaszczykowski and Piotr Zielinski who should be able to provide Lewandowski with plenty of chances. Playing at their first finals since 2002, Senegal find themselves in arguably the most open group in the tournament but will have aspirations of progressing. Star man Sadio Mane will have to be at his best but recent form suggests otherwise, can he step up?

Poland (@ShaneGoesArd) vs. Senegal (@BuyMoreKeys)

Ones to watch - Arkadiusz Milik (Poland) and Sadio Mane (Senegal)
Prediction - Poland 2-1 Senegal

Tuesday 19th June, 6pm game time.

The second round of group stage matches begins with the hosts facing Egypt. Russia were strong in their opener with performances of individual brilliance from Denis Cheryshev (2 goals) and Aleksandr Golovin (1 goal, 2 assists) but Egypt represent stronger opposition. Can they repeat this feat and make a big step towards the knockouts? Egypt will be reeling from their tight opener with Uruguay and will feel unlucky. There are whispers that Mo Salah will return for this game but how fit will he be? A must win game for Egypt, I personally think they will risk him.

Russia (@kev pass) vs. Egypt (@Arron)

Ones to watch - Denis Cheryshev (Russia) and Mohamed Salah (Egypt)
Prediction - Russia 2-1 Egypt

Wednesday 20th June, 12pm game time.

After an exciting opener against their Iberian rivals last week, Portugal will be keen to get a first win under their belt. Ronaldo ran the show against Spain scoring a hattrick to include a sublime late free kick to earn a draw. This is a must win if Portugal have any hopes of finishing top of the group. Will Cristiano step up again? Morocco will feel very hard done by, conceding a last minute own goal to a struggling Iran team. This is also a must win for them if they are to progress. I fear it may be the end of their tournament.

Portugal (@Krazy Golf) vs. Morocco (@Cherrycrush)

Ones to watch - Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) and Hakim Ziyech (Morocco)
Prediction - Portugal 3-1 Morocco

Wednesday 20th June, 3pm game time.

Uruguay were very disappointing in their first match. Luis Suarez looked slow and dejected, struggling to make an impact on the game. His strike partner, Cavani will be rueing those missed chances as Uruguay managed a late winner against Egypt thanks to one of their central defenders. They will have to be better if they have any ambitions of doing well in this tournament, especially with Russia cruising to 2 out of 2 wins. Saudi Arabia were demolished by the host nation in their opener and looked terrible on the ball. They simply have to pick up points here otherwise their tournament is over. I personally cannot see it and envisage an easy win for Uruguay.

Uruguay (@laralea) vs. Saudi Arabia (@Miss Mudds)

Ones to watch - Edinson Cavani (Uruguay) and Mohamed Al-Sahlawi (Saudi Arabia)
Prediction - Uruguay 3-0 Saudi Arabia

Wednesday 20th June, 6pm game time.

Iran are probably still celebrating from their last gasp winner against Morocco but they face much tougher opposition in Spain. They will have to work very hard chasing the ball, and it is difficult to see them getting anything here. Their best chance is to probably catch Spain on the counterattack as their aging centrebacks may not have the pace they once did. Spain will be looking for a strong performance here after being unlucky in their first game against Portugal. David De Gea, their goalkeeper, had a game to forget and will be wanting to redeem himself. I see him picking up a clean sheet here. Spain looked like Spain of old, playing some fluid football in their opener and I am confident they can get the win here. Diego Costa looked as sharp as ever, creating a goal from seemingly nothing.

Iran (@Mini Nub) vs. Spain (@Only Lilly)

Ones to watch - Ashkan Dejagah (Iran) and Diego Costa (Spain)
Prediction - Iran 0-4 Spain

Thursday 21st June, 12pm game time.

Denmark looked defensively solid in their opening match, even against a very attacking Peruvian side and should be credited here. A strike from their young star, Yussuf Poulsen, was enough to earn them a win and they will be feeling confident they can get the job done here again. Christian Eriksen was lacklustre in Denmark's initial game and will be looking to improve on this performance. Australia were disappointing in their first match, narrowly losing to France. They will feel unlucky in the way they conceded the decisive goal and see this as a must win game. Will their manager be brave and start Tim Cahill? He has performed for them so many times previously.

Denmark (@Only Matt) vs. Australia (@Nikkielauran)

Ones to watch - Yussuf Poulsen (Denmark) and Aaron Mooy (Australia)
Prediction - Denmark 1-0 Australia

Thursday 21st June, 3pm game time.

France were somewhat disappointing in their first match, struggling to get over the line against Australia, largely thanks to a freak goal from Paul Pogba. They looked a bit sharper once Blaise Matuidi entered the game and I think it would be wise to start him over Tolisso. The team selectors have made some interesting choices, leaving a lot of talented players out of their squad with the likes of Martial, Payet and Lacazette all missing. Will they go on to reject any of these omissions? Peru shocked many people, playing a fast paced and exciting style of football that was very refreshing to watch. They will feel hard done by against Denmark and created many chances to at least level the game. I am looking forward to seeing more of Peru and can see them picking up a point here.

France (@Karli) vs. Peru (@JK)

Ones to watch - Antoine Griezmann (France) and Jefferson Farfán (Peru)
Prediction - France 1-1 Peru

Thursday 21st June, 6pm game time.

Argentina were another team to disappoint in their opening match against a very well organised Iceland team. There is obviously a heavy reliance on Lionel Messi and he was often crowded out by the opposition in this match. The great man missed a penalty which ultimately cost Argentina the win and he will be keen to make things right. Sergio Aguero created a goal from nothing, proving once more he is one of the most clinical strikers on the planet. Hats off to Iceland though who looked solid and continue to impress on the international stage. Croatia too seemed shaky but managed to see off Nigeria no thanks to a penalty scored by key man Luka Modric. The match was poor and Croatia will have to be better. Croatia can ensure progression to the next round with a win here, but will have to improve going forward with players like Mario Mandzukic really stepping up to the plate.

Argentina (@Only Liam) vs. Croatia (@Tracie)

Ones to watch - Sergio Aguero (Argentina) and Ivan Perisic (Croatia)
Prediction - Argentina 2-1 Croatia

Saturday 23rd June, 12pm game time.

Belgium looked strong in their opener against Panama, with Romelu Lukaku scoring a brace and Dries Mertens firing home a spectacular goal. Is this squad of superstars finally gelling? Only time will tell but surely they face stronger opposition in Tunisia who will feel unlucky to lose out to England at the very last moment. They defended solidly for large portions of that game although lacked any real attacking threat. I think this will be costly for them today and I struggle to see anything other than a Belgian win and ultimately, elimination from the tournament for Tunisia.

Belgium (@Ardo) vs. Tunisia (@sheepprobe)

Ones to watch - Dries Mertens (Belgium) and Wahbi Khazri (Tunisia)
Prediction - Belgium 2-0 Tunisia

Saturday 23rd June, 3pm game time.

South Korea will feel unlucky, losing their opening fixture against Sweden thanks to a VAR-decided penalty. Probably the most effective use of the new system since it's introduction, the officials did well here and I think made a correct decision. Mexico played an exciting style of football in their first match, producing a huge shock to beat current holders Germany. Mexico were well organised and countered quickly against a lacklustre German side who will surely improve. Highly sought after winger Hirving Lozano scored the only goal of the game, how many clubs will be after his signature once the world cup finishes? I think this will be another close match with plenty of chances but see Mexico just edging it, effectively securing their progression.

South Korea (@2w) vs. Mexico (@Kobran)

Ones to watch - Son Heung-min (South Korea) and Javier Hernandez (Mexico)
Prediction - South Korea 0-1 Mexico

Saturday 23rd June, 6pm game time.

A big game for this household but also for millions of Germans! The current world champions were poor, to say the least, in their opening game against a very well organised and attacking Mexican team. Joachim Low will typically not make many changes to his squad but will be expectant of an improved performance. Expect to see Germany much quicker on the ball and playing the fluid football we know they can. Maybe the manager will opt for 2 strikers (to include Marco Reus) which will give them more attacking threat from the off. Sweden will still be celebrating after their opening victory against South Korea in what was another poor game, devoid of many chances. They can take a giant step towards progression to the next round with a win here, especially if Mexico win also. This is simply a must win game for Germany and should be the most exciting match today. I can see them just getting over the line in a very close match.

Germany (@Sissybear) vs. Sweden (@Alaklondewen)

Ones to watch - Joshua Kimmich (Germany) and Emil Forsberg (Sweden)
Prediction - Germany 2-1 Sweden

Sunday 24th June, 12pm game time.

England VS PANAMA

England created a lot of chances against Tunisia last time, struggling to really grab the game and run with it However captain fantastic, HARRY KANE stuck away 2 crucial goals, one being right towards the end of the game. England are on course to securing qualification if they win against Panama. Changes will be very important in this game, as temperatures are suppose to be sky high. England need to be winning games like this, after watching Belgium yesterday they must be thinking how can we react to that. Panama, In there first game against Belgium at times did play some really nice football, a team which are unit, really gel well as a team, its players like Marcus Rashford, who could really hurt Panama. I wouldnt rule off Panama, as even Gareth Southgate has came out said "Panama have some tricks up there sleeves". So we will have to find out, Can the 3 LIONS bring back 3 points?

England (@Henk) vs. Panama (@Oh Ella)

Ones to watch - Harry Kane (England) and Blas Perez (Panama)
Prediction - England 3-0 Panama

Saturday 23rd June, 3pm game time.

JAPAN VS SENEGAL

Japan, well everyone loves Japan, Fans coming in from all over the world to support Japan, a very impressive win over a good Colombian team. Shinji Kagawa, really is one of there world class players, completely bossed the game in the second half and will look to do the same again. Will they be cleaning up the stadium again if they win tomorrow? time will tell. However they up against strong opposition in Senegal, also coming off a 2-1 victory over a very impressive Poland team, this will be a fascinating game to watch, whoever is to win this game tomorrow, surely will be standing pretty good at the top of group H

Senegal (@BuyMoreKeys) vs Japan (@Rebeca)

Ones to watch - Shinji Kagawa (Japan) and Sadio Mane (Senegal)
Prediction - Japan 0 - 1 Senegal

Saturday 23rd June, 6pm game time.

A big game for them both in GROUP H! Both teams were poor, to say the least, in their opening game, despite being down to 10 men they really should of done better. Expect to see both teams really going for the jugular on this one, they both have to win to stand a chance in surviving, both teams really need to show there fans and their families what they can do. Some serious attacking threat from both teams with Poland having arguably one of the best strikers in the world in Lewandowski and Colombia having another world class striker in Falcao, Its going to be a game of the strikers, but who will come out on top. I can see it being a very tight game, chances have to be taken early on in the game to secure the win.

Poland (@ShaneGoesArd) vs. Colombia (@Aquanoise)

Ones to watch - Lewandowski (Poland) and Falcao (Colombia)
Prediction - Poland 2 - 1 Colombia

Monday 25th June, 2pm game time.

Both of these already eliminated teams will be playing for pride in this match. Saudi Arabia will be looking to score their first goal of the tournament after playing pretty poorly in their previous 2 games and will have to find some confidence to save face in this final game. Heartbreak for Mohamed Salah and Egypt who were eliminated from the tournament after a convincing defeat to Russia last week. Given the season Salah has had with Liverpool and now guiding the national team to their first world cup finals for some 20 years, he will feel hard done by and will be keen to impress here. I see an Egypt win here, hopefully Salah bowing out with another goal to his name.

Saudi Arabia (@Miss Mudds) vs. Egypt (@So Soft)

One to watch - Mohamed Salah (Egypt)
Prediction - Saudi Arabia 0-2 Egypt

Monday 25th June, 2pm game time.

Uruguay and Russia face off in an important game to decide the winner of Group A. Both will be keen to progress at the top of the table and hopefully avoid some giants in the knockout rounds. The hosts have looked the stronger of the two, scoring 8 goals in 2 games, whilst only conceding one. How much has home advantage played a part, or is there something more? Golovin and Cheryshov continue to impress but I think Dzyuba could be critical here. He has great presence in the air which could be vital against a solid Uruguayan defensive line. Uruguay have been disappointing in this tournament but looked more lively in their second match. The strike partnership of Cavani and Suarez will have to be at their best if they are to beat this well organised Russian side. I predict a very close game of few chances with the home nation just edging it.

Uruguay (@laralea) vs. Russia (@kev pass)

Ones to watch - Edinson Cavani (Uruguay) and Artem Dzyuba (Russia)
Prediction - Uruguay 1-2 Russia

Monday 25th June, 6pm game time.

Group B is wide open with 3 of the 4 teams still able to progress. Iran will feel unlucky in their second match against Spain and defended well for large portions of the game, but sadly could not hold out the masters of breaking down an opposition defence. A win here against Portugal will see them through to the round of 16 as group runners up. I struggle to see where their goals are coming from but they could spring a surprise. Portugal saw off Morocco yet again thanks to their star man, Cristiano Ronaldo. Will he perform once more and send his side through? Portugal still have a chance to top the group, depending on other results or if they can score several goals against this weak Iran team. I think they will opt to take matters into their own hands and should be aggressive in this match.

Iran (@Mini Nub) vs. Portugal (@Krazy Golf)

Ones to watch - Ashkan Dejagah (Iran) and Bernardo Silva (Portugal)
Prediction - Iran 0-3 Portugal

Monday 25th June, 6pm game time.

Spain are in a similar position to their Iberian neighbours, sitting on 4 points with exactly the same goals scored and conceded, making for an interesting finale to Group B. Spain managed to break down a solid Iranian defence eventually in what was a pretty boring game, but they got the job done. Like Portugal, they will be keen to finish as group leaders and I think will look to attack. Morocco have caused the other teams in this group a few problems and, despite their confirmed elimination, will go into this game confident. I believe they could steal a goal or 2 here, what implications will this have for Spain and the final group standings?

Spain (@Only Lilly) vs. Morocco (@Cherrycrush)

Ones to watch - David Silva (Spain) and Medhi Benatia (Morocco)
Prediction - Spain 3-1 Morocco

Tuesday 26th June, 2pm game time.

Australia VS Peru . Well well well, Australia could nick it here, if they were to win by 2 clear goals and Denmark loose be a heavy defeat we could be looking at potential Australia going through to the Round 16. So the ozzy's will be going all guns blazing in this won and hope the result from the other group goes there way. Peru are also looking like they wont be having there key man in Farfan due to being hospital recently. So this is all to play for. Excited times, could there be an upset on the cards in Group C. Tight game in stores for this one.

Australia (@Nikkielauran) vs. Peru (@JK)

Ones to watch - Tim Cahill (Australia) and Paolo Guerrero (Peru)
Prediction - Australia 1-0 Peru

Tuesday 26th June, 2pm game time.

Group C, the group which could completely changed depending on results. This could become quite a feisty game, with both teams wanting to cement top finish, who ever wins tops the group its as simple as that. France have looked a little sluggish at times but have been turning out with the W's however Denmark let it slip, with a draw and a win, sitting on 4 points. BUT if they were to do France other on this important game then it really could kick start Denmark it an easy running. France have some real talent on the pitch with players playing for top quality teams throughout the world. They really should be winning games like this, top 5 favorites to win the world cup, if they are to put in a decent performance tomorrow I really believe they can go far with this time round. Especially when you have players like Pogba, Greizmann & Mbappe in your front line, cant get much better then that really.

France (@Karli) vs. Denmark (@Only Matt)

Ones to watch - Paul Pogba (France) and Cristian Eriksen (Denmark)
Prediction - France 2 - 0 Denmark

Tuesday 26th June, 6pm game time.

Group D, well where to start here, Nigeria sitting pretty good at second at the moment and realistically only a win a way from progressing through to the round of 16..... Argentina will be looking to put serious pressure from the whistle, they really need to go for it from the minute that whistle goes. Messi and co really need to start getting on with it now before its way too late, they have the fire power going forward and the defense like a brick wall, but there doesn't seem to be enough in midfield not enough going forward into the two strikers MESSI & AGUERO!!! However Nigeria, coming off a very impressive 2-0 victory, with Musa bang in form who will be looking to counter attack Argentina all game long. Iwobi, has been tipped to start this game which a lot of fans are hoping for.

Nigeria (@Duck) vs. Argentina (@Only Liam)

Ones to watch - Ahmed Musa (Nigeria) and Lionel Messi (Argentina)
Prediction - Nigeria 1 - 2 Argentina

Tuesday 26th June, 6pm game time.

Last but not least the last group game of GROUP D will be Iceland vs Croatia, wow is all I have to say to this one, Croatia have arguably the best underrated Centre Midfields known to this world cup, Ivan Rakitic & Luka Modric. They ooooouseeee class all game every game, if these guys were to play for Spain, England, France or Brazil then we would be saying player of the tournaments, there that good! However, Iceland are a tough team to crack, solid back 4 with a holding midfielder there at all times. They are use to beating teams when they need to, and realistically they need to do it NOW. However I think the pure class from Croatia's two CM will be beyond Icelands reach. Personally believe that these really are the dark horse in this competition

Iceland (@Billy) vs. Croatia (@Tracie)

Ones to watch - Gilfy Sigurdsson  (Iceland) and Ivan Rakitic (Croatia)
Prediction - Croatia 2 - 0 Iceland

Wednesday 27th June, 2pm game time.

Mexico arguably look the strongest team in this group and can qualify for the round of 16 with a draw here. They continued to play a fast and exciting style of football to see off South Korea in their second match and will look to do the same here. Sweden are another team playing surprisingly well, narrowly losing to Germany in the very last minute and should feel confident going into this one. Sweden can qualify with a win against Mexico or if they better Germany's result. Both teams have something to play for and I predict a very close game with many chances.

Mexico (@Kobran) vs. Sweden (@Alaklondewen)

One to watch - Javier Hernandez (Mexico) and Emil Forsberg (Sweden)
Prediction - Mexico 2-1 Sweden

Wednesday 27th June, 2pm game time.

South Korea will feel unlucky in this tournament, after playing some nice football, they have been narrowly edged out in their previous two matches. Their fate is now out of their hands and they will have to beat Germany (whilst also hoping Sweden do not pick up any points) if they are to qualify. Heung-min Son was in tears after their second game and his passion was evident. The world champions can secure qualification with a win, whether this will be as group leaders or runners up will be dictated by the amount of goals they can score. Toni Kroos produced a moment of magic to give Germany a late winner against Sweden, keeping their hopes of a title defence alive. I envisage Germany attacking (as usual), but how vulnerable will they be against this counter attacking South Korean side?

South Korea (@2w) vs. Germany (@Sissybear)

Ones to watch - Son Heung-min (South Korea) and Toni Kroos (Germany)
Prediction - South Korea 0-2 Germany

Wednesday 27th June, 6pm game time.

Group E is wide open, with 3 teams all still vying for the top spot. Serbia have looked organised, no thanks to their experienced players as well as the attacking threat Mitrovic can offer. He will have to perform once more if Serbia are to progress, requiring a win or a draw (if Switzerland fail for the latter). I can see Serbia scoring at least 1 goal here and should push Brazil to make for an interesting game. Brazil secured their first win of the tournament against a lacklustre Costa Rica side. The game was dull but sprang to life in the last 10 minutes with 2 goals in quick succession for the South American footballing giants. They will have to be more clinical and impose their dominance onto games earlier if they are to challenge for the trophy.

Serbia (@Vincent) vs. Brazil (@Powerless)

Ones to watch - Aleksandar Mitrović (Serbia) and Philippe Coutinho (Brazil)
Prediction - Serbia 1-3 Brazil

Wednesday 27th June, 6pm game time.

Xherdan Shaqiri rescued Switzerland's world cup by scoring a late winner against Serbia in the last round. Switzerland have looked surprisingly strong thus far, despite offering little attacking talent, they have managed 4 out of a possible 6 points, to include a draw against Brazil. This should be an easier test for them against an already eliminated Costa Rica side. Shaqiri may need to step up once more if they have any ambitions of finishing as group winners, something Brazil will be keen to beat them to. Costa Rica will be playing for pride in this game and are yet to score a goal at the tournament - a far cry from their performances in 2014. I think they will continue to struggle here and owing to the overall attacking talent in this match, I envisage a close game with very few chances. An exciting game in the Barnett household however!

Switzerland (@CGBx) vs. Costa Rica (@KGBx)

Ones to watch - Xherdan Shaqiri (Switzerland) and Bryan Ruiz (Costa Rica)
Prediction - Switzerland 1-0 Costa Rica

Thursday 28th June, 2pm game time.

The return of Rodriguez was clearly a major boost here but it was Quintero, who really shown last game week. Colombia, well where do i start with these, they really have impressed a lot of pundits backing now, can they be the dark horse? Outstanding upfront very pacey very direct I think they can really damage Senegal tomorrow, they are no push overs. Colombia really need to pull a win out to push forward and progress through the group but wont be an easy ride for Senegal. This group is wide open and its up for grabs for anyone to take second and first top but who will it be. Who will be playing England in the next round.

Senegal (@BuyMoreKeys) vs. Colombia (@Aquanoise)

One to watch - (Senegal) and (Colombia)
Prediction - Senegal 0 Vs Colombia 2

Thursday 28th June, 2pm game time.

Japan, well its all there's to loose really. All they have to do is win against a fairly poor Poland team. So could Japan pull off a miracle and top the group! Will they continue to clean the stadium if they win? We will find out very sharpish. Poland have been really poor this tournament they surely have to give their fans something to cheer for. Poland on paper look very good, but on the field they are very different. Can Lewandowski lead his team to glory, and send their fans home with 3 points, BUT it wont be easy as Japan are on fire.

Japan (@Rebeca) vs. Poland (@ShaneGoesArd)

Ones to watch - Shinji Kagawa (Japan) and (Poland)
Prediction - Japan 2-1 Poland

Wednesday 27th June, 6pm game time.

Group G is closed really , with 2 teams clearly rooting for top spot. Will it be England OR will it be Belgium. Its being said that both teams will be playing a so called wicker side to give the others a race. This will be a true test to see how good England can go, but football is coming home boys and girls. Can England score 6 against a very impressive Belgium back line, or will we start to show cracks playing a so called beater team. Both teams have won both games, can one team take all 9 points or will it be statement draw.

Footballs coming home (we'll go on getting bad results)
It's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming
Footballs coming home
It's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming
Footballs coming home

England (@Henk) vs. Belgium (@Ardo)

Ones to watch - Marcus Rashford (England) and Yannick Carrascco (Belgium)
Prediction - England 2 - 1 Belgium

Thursday 27th June, 6pm game time.

Panama, have coincided 9 goals in two games, can they try and keep a clean sheet other Tunisia or at least not coincide more then 2. After getting beaten by England with 6 cracking goals, however they do have something going forward, with scoring one against England. They need to stop rugby tackling people in the box and stop giving away silly penalties, as they can seriously score against Tunisia. But it wont be easy for Panama as Tunisia has one crazily good CB "Benatia" and have scored in both games. Both teams, have had a hard group to be fair and have done well to score against the likes of Belgium and England. Its a bit of a nothing game for them but I am sure both teams will wont to win for there fans.

Panama (@Oh Ella) vs. Tunisa (@sheepprobe)

Ones to watch - Roman Torres (Panama) and  Medhi Benatia (Morroco)
Prediction - Panama 0-1 Morroco

England and Belgium are in really interesting situation, I would say none of them wants to win this game and Group G.

Winner of group would end in same side of table as Uruguay, Portugal, France, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico.
Runner-up of group would get Spain, Russia, Croatia, Denmark, Sweden and Switzerland.

England and Belgium will get their Round of 16 opponents from Group H. Japan, Senegal and Columbia can still advance, Japan having best odds to finish on the top of the group. So it does not really matter, who England and Belgium will face, they will be favorites anyway. Also worth to mention that Group H will finish before Group G.

Winner of Group G would face Brazil/Mexico winner in the quarter-finals, when runner-up would face Sweden/Switzerland winner in the quarter-finals.

So it would be useful not to win the Group G, because the runner-up has to face weaker teams and therefore has better odds to reach the semi-finals.

So ye, even though I support Belgium, I do not want them to win today. Draw would be perfect but I don't mind losing to England at all.

In reality, that game will probably end up as a very boring 0:0 draw.

Saturday 30th June, 2pm game time.

Two giants of international football get the knockout stages off to an interesting start. Both of these teams have been somewhat lacklustre in the group stages and will have to now start performing if they are to be taken seriously. France have a seriously impressive squad and have been disappointing in this tournament. Players like Mbappe, Griezmann and Pogba will really have to step up. France have lost their last 8 world cup matches against South American opposition, time to buck that trend? Lionel Messi has been the focal point for Argentina so far but it was defender Marcos Rojo who ultimately secured their progression with a last minute winner against Nigeria. They will have to be better to see off this France squad boasting a wealth of talent. I'm predicting a nervy game for both teams with chances few and far between, but can see France just edging it - maybe in extra time.

France (@Karli) vs. Argentina (@Only Liam)

One to watch - Kylian Mbappe (France) and Lionel Messi (Argentina)
Prediction - France 1-1 Argentina, France win in extra time 2-1

Saturday 30th June, 6pm game time.

Another close game on the cards here, neither of these teams will want to be overly aggressive. Uruguay look solid defensively and are yet to concede a goal at the tournament. Combine this with their impressive front 2 and they could be dark horses for the trophy. Luis Suarez has looked sluggish in some matches then brilliant in others, scoring a sublime free kick against Russia to confirm them as group winners. Portugal have looked equally as strong, conceding more goals, but they have looked stronger going forward. Can Cristiano Ronaldo perform for a 4th game? It will be some feat if he does especially considering he has never scored in a world cup knockout match! I think Portugal will have to call on their other talented players, such as Bernardo Silva and Ricardo Quaresma, if they are to get the better of this game. I'm thinking this one will be close but ultimately the strong Uruguayan centreback pairing will prove insurmountable for Portugal.

Uruguay (@laralea) vs. Portugal (@Krazy Golf)

Ones to watch - Luis Suarez (Uruguay) and Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)
Prediction - Uruguay 1-0 Portugal

Sunday 1st July, 2pm game time.

Spain scraped through the group stages thanks to a last minute Iago Aspas equaliser against Morocco. Luck was further on their side that night as Portugal missed a penalty and conceded a late equaliser to Iran, meaning Spain topped the group. Defensively they have looked shaky, superstar goalkeeper David De Gea has let in all 4 shots against him. The usually strong centreback pairing of Pique and Ramos has also been leaking goals. These 2 look sluggish and are easily beaten against the teams with any pace. Having said that, Spain still boast a lot of attacking threat with players like Aspas, Isco and Costa looking lively and I think they will be too much for this Russian side. Russia had a somewhat easier run of group games, breezing past Saudi Arabia and Egypt, but struggled against the threat of Uruguay. This will be a real test for the host nation and the likes of Golovin, Cheryshov and Dzyuba will really have to be at their best. Russia (or USSR) have not won a world cup knockout game since 1966 and I think that record is set to continue. Their best chance is to try and catch Spain's aging centrebacks on the break because all I can envisage is 90 minutes of constant Spanish pressure here.

Spain (@Only Lilly) vs. Russia (@kev pass)

One to watch - Isco (Spain) and Aleksandr Golovin (Russia)
Prediction - Spain 2-1 Russia

Sunday 1st July, 6pm game time.

This match should be the more interesting of the two today with both teams looking well organised. Croatia are tipped by some as the dark horses for the trophy after seeing off all 3 teams in their group including beating Argentina convincingly. Croatia will be back to full strength today with big players such as Mandzukic and Rakitic returning to the lineup, they will pose a lot of threat going forward. Luka Modric makes the team tick but he is struggling to get on the scoresheet himself. Ivan Perisic scored a sublime goal against Iceland in what was another strong performance and he will always be a threat down the left wing. Denmark have been defensively solid in this tournament, conceding very few goals and are unbeaten in their last 18 international matches. They have lacked quality going forward though with star man Christian Eriksen the only one showing any real attacking flare. The likes of Yussuf Poulsen and Andreas Cornelius will need to step up today if they are to progress beyond this tricky fixture. I think this will be a close game, with many chances but few goals and a tight Croatia win.

Croatia (@Tracie) vs. Denmark (@Only Matt)

Ones to watch - Ivan Perisic (Croatia) and Christian Eriksen (Denmark)
Prediction - Croatia 1-0 Denmark

Monday 2nd July, 2pm game time.

This match should be the better one of the two today with both teams looking explosive in attack Brazil, clear favorites for this game by far. One of the teams who look likely to win the tournament, arguably the best team on paper in this tournament, but they have looked lack lustered and have been pegged back a bit in the group stages. However Brazil will want to send a message out there too all of the football fans and answer their critics. Allison will be looking for another clean sheet to his name, as he looks to impress. It wont be easy though as the Mexicans have really shone in this Tournament with playing some really attacking football with an impressive top 3, I think this game could really go to wire, especially if Mexico, play as well as they did in the opening game. Dark horses! However I honestly think, Brazil have the slight advantage with there players being a class above everyone in this tournament. They are the favorites at the end of the day. This shapes up to be one of the best games in the tournament, can Mexico do a miracle and knock out the big dog. (I HOPE SO) Neymar has been a talking point of the tournament, he really needs to galvanize the player

Brazil (@Powerless) VS Mexico (@Kobran)

One to watch - Neymar (Brazil) and Carlos Vela (Mexico)
Prediction - Brazil 2-1 Mexico

Monday 2nd July, 6pm game time.

Japan scraping through by the skin of there teeth, quite literally going through as runners up on YELLOW CARDS, i can only see one clear winner in today's game. Japenese fans have been one of the highlights of the tournament by cleaning up the stadium on multiple occasion, could you imagine what they would do if they could knock out BELGIUM! i think the pure power and aggression from the Belgium will really show through in today's game, and will be too hot for Japan to handle. Lukaku will be returning to the starting line up and will be firing Belgium to victory. He is looking to be taking that golden boot home. With De Bruyne also returning to the line up and will be waiting to show the world what he can do, arguably one of the best midfielders in today's football, the spine of Belgium will win them the game today! This could be your last game Rebeca ;)

Belgium (@Ardo) vs. Japan (@Rebeca)

Ones to watch - Lukaku (Belgium) and Honda (Japan)
Prediction - Belgium 3-0 Japan

Tuesday 3rd July, 2pm game time.

Shock winners of Group F, Sweden have been a solid outfit in this tournament, creating few chances but taking their opportunities to score. They were mightily unlucky against Germany and romped home against a poor Mexico side. Sweden have not won a world cup knockout game for 24 years but will fancy their chances here. The wife of Swedish captain, Andreas Granqvist, is due to give birth during this match but he has maintained that he will play regardless - brave! Switzerland are similarly inexperienced at this level of tournament football, having not scored a goal in the knockouts since they hosted in 1954. Forced into several changes through either injury or suspension, the Swiss will be without veteran defender Stephan Lichtsteiner and also Fabian Schar. Where will these gaps leave them defensively? Xherdan Shaqiri went missing in their last group fixture and now really is his time to shine, especially with strike partner, Haris Seferovic, failing to step up to the plate. I think this one will be another close knockout match with chances few and far between, I'm going for a narrow Sweden win.

Sweden (@Alaklondewen) vs. Switzerland (@CGBx)

One to watch - Emil Forsberg (Sweden) and Xherdan Shaqiri (Switzerland)
Prediction - Sweden 1-0 Switzerland

Tuesday 3rd July, 6pm game time.

Colombia looked impressive in the group stages, only losing once after going down to 10 men against Japan for the majority of that match. They are well organised defensively, conceding only twice and also pose a lot of threat going forward. Colombia will be without star man James Rodriguez. The Bayern Munich man, who lit up the tournament in 2014, apparently overworked himself in training and is now carrying a knock. There is no doubt Colombia have enough attacking talent in Cuadrado, Falcao and Quintero, to see off England but how much will they miss Rodriguez? In what is a massive game for England, the entire nation will be expectant and Gareth Southgate really has his neck on the line here. This is arguably England's best chance at winning the world cup for over 50 years and he will be heavily criticised if their tournament ends in this match. Expect to see multiple changes and a return to a full strength squad. Will the manager keep his faith in the likes of Sterling and Alli? This will be an excruciating match for England fans and I think it could go down to the wire. I'm predicting a nervy game with many close chances, potentially an England win in extra time!

Colombia (@Aquanoise) vs. England (@Punyip)

Ones to watch - Juan Fernando Quintero (Colombia) and Harry Kane (England)
Prediction - Colombia 1-1 England, England win 2-1 in extra time

Friday 6th July, 2pm game time.

This is where the fun begins the quarter finals, and what a game to kick us off into action. This is is set up to be an absolute cracking game of football, France coming off a very entertaining 4-3 win over Argentina, which they looked the best team to have improved after the group stages, France are definitely ones to watch. With the best under 21 player single handily on this plant Mbappe, scoring a very smart brace, he will be looking to improve on that tomorrow. However, Uruguay are no push overs at all, being a outsider special, with one of the best up front two you will see in the tournament on their day, these two could do serious damage. Cavani, looking hungry to score and well Suarez doing what he does best (NOT BITING PEOPLE) but he is starting to score and assist his team when it matters. I am really excited for this game its going to be a cracking test, and whoever comes out on top on this one could be worthy off taken that trophy home with them. France have edge it with likes of Pogba and Kante in midfield however they will be out their veteran holding midfield Matuidi due to suspension.

Uruguay (@laralea) vs. France (@Karli)
One to watch - Paul Pogba (France) and Luis Suarez ()
Prediction - France 1-1 Uruguay
ET PENALTIES (FRANCE WIN)

Friday 6th July, 6pm game time.

The GAME of the day, 2 absolute power giants 2 teams 1 goal, and that's to win this cup. Either one of these two teams could easily win it this year and have the best team on paper by far. This is going to be a super duper game, both teams in form playing incredible well in their round of 16 tie. Brazil comfortable beating their opposition 2-0 and Belgium doing what they do best and showing great spirit and teamwork to over come a 2-0 to beat japan 3-2. Brazil play slicked fast attacking football where as Belgium play a very direct game feed the ball to Lukaku with is hold up play can bring in the big boys. Can it just be 8pm game time now..... Seriously cant wait for this one, hope you are all going to watching this. Should be exciting, means one of the big boys will be knocked out in the quarter finals. Countinho and Neymar (Apart from rolling) have been absolute unreal this tournament with showing there worth and showing the world why they are the best. Belguim will put up a good fight and will want to win this as much as anything, to show the world why they deserve to win the world cup. They are looking very sharp, with their counter attacking options they really can hurt anyone in this tournament and could do England a favor and knock out the favorites tomorrow!! <3. However in all honestly I can only see one winner in this and that is Brazil, having that much more experience I think will help them and it will be theirs to loose.

We still believe, we still believe
It's coming home,
It's coming home, it's coming
Football's coming home
It's coming home,
It's coming home, it's coming

Football's coming home
Tears for heroes dressed in grey
No plans for final day
Stay in bed,drift away
It could have been all

Songs in the street
It was nearly complete
It was nearly so sweet
And now I'm singing
three lions on a shirt
Jules Rimet still gleaming

Sweden however are our bogey team but honestly this has to be the best English TEAM we have witness in a long time. Its our too loose.

England (@Punyip) vs. Sweden (@Alaklondewen)
One to watch - Harry Kane (England) and Emil Forsberg (Sweden)
Prediction - England 2 - 0 Sweden

Friday 7th July, 6pm game time.

This is going to be a feisty game a very hard game to call, on paper for me Croatia just edge especially in midfield. They have special players with the likes of Luka Modric and Rakitic, by far the best pair of midfield on the pitch tomorrow. However Russia, have look a threat free flowing scoring football knocking out the European winners, and holding themselves when it needs to be. Croatia on paper are the better side, Russia will obviously have the most fans there and hosting such a brilliant tournament they could even knick it on deaths door. However I think they may start to show cracks in tomorrows game with Croatia's heartbeat in the midfield should be able to find the killer pass on goal to help push them through to the semi finals. Russia, will look lively with the crowd roaring them from the start and will use that too their advantage, they will have to pull off a masterclass like they did so against Spain, to stand a chance of progressing further. Croatia in my eyes are the dark horses, and may end Russia's dreams tomorrow in 90 minutes.

Ones to watch - Akinfeev (Russia) and Luka Modric (Croatia)
Prediction - Russia 1-2 Croatia

Two Estonian members of the clan go head to head in this one, in what should be a thrilling game to watch. I'm a cynical England fan and think that the winner of this first semi final takes the trophy home with them. These two teams are by far the strongest left in the tournament and this match should be a true clash of the heavyweights. France breezed past Uruguay in their quarter final and were dominant, with young centreback Varane opening the scoring. Mbappe was fairly quiet in this game but it was his strike partner Griezmann who provided the first goal assist as well as sealing France's spot in the semi finals with a goal of his own. Blaise Matuidi will return to the squad, a solid player in the middle of the park, he will surely make a difference. France have history on their side here, winning the last 3 meetings between these teams and have also won their last two semi finals. Belgium are a new team under Roberto Martinez and boast a very exciting squad. They were fantastic against a strong Brazil side, scoring two goals in the first half, effectively sealing the tie. A piece of pure brilliance from playmaker Kevin de Bruyne stole the show as he shot from distance to assert Belgium dominance on this match. He continues to have the season of his life, how far could he take Belgium? They are a somewhat inexperienced team at this level of a major competition (largely because they are only recently serious contenders) and their key men will have to perform if they are to beat this strong France squad. There is no doubt Belgium have the talent to see this one through with the likes of Hazard, Lukaku and Mertens looking as good as ever. The manager has a lot of players to pick from, will he change his tactics? As he did so against Brazil or revert to a more familiar formation? This match should be fascinating, I can see an end to end counter attacking game with many chances. As much as I'd love to see Belgium win, I think the French will edge it. Maybe in extra time.

Why are you all still underestimating Belgium?
Belgium has best squad at the moment but just because they are not one of the big (Germany, Brazil, Spain, France, Italy), people don't seem to take them seriously.
Belgium is currently stronger than France, they will win today and will win on sunday.

Belgium were substandard tonight and France were as clinical as they have been all knockouts.

Wednesday 11th July, 6pm game time.

This is the big one. Croatia were again shaky in their quarter final against Russia and were forced into 120 minutes of football and penalties. How will this affect their fitness going into this match? Croatia have a few fitness concerns as a result, most notably superstar goalkeeper Subasic. He will be a big miss if not fully fit for this match. Croatia boast an impressive squad and will be sure to test England. A strong midfield partnership in Modric and Rakitic will be hard to defend against. The likes of Kramaric, Perisic and Mandzukic up front provide Croatia with a lot of attacking threat and they have enough to see off this England squad. Defensively leaky as a team, they will also be without right back Sime Vrsaljko after the Dortmund man was ruled out with injury. Croatia play in their second ever world cup semi final (losing the first to France in 1998) and are unbeaten in their last 6 knockout matches since. In what is a massive game for England, the whole nation will be expectant. Their first world cup semi final for 28 years (Gascoigne's tears!) and what an incredible opportunity to reach the final. After so many years of disappointment and their third semi final (losing the last 2), England really need to seize this chance. They saw off Sweden with relative ease and largely controlled the game. A towering header from Harry Maguire opened the scoring whilst Dele Alli secured their spot in the semi finals with a second header. They will be boosted by the return of midfielder Jordan Henderson who has (to the surprise of many, including myself) looked solid in this tournament and also striker Jamie Vardy. England have looked strong in set piece plays, scoring 8 of their 11 goals in this area of the game. I think they will look to exploit a weaker Croatian defence here. Harry Kane is on for the golden boot and I think a goal or 2 in this match effectively secures it for him. Can England top that by also lifting the trophy? I can see nothing but a nervy game for England fans and will not be surprised if it goes the distance. I'm feeling confident England can progress however.

Croatia (@Tracie) vs. England (@Punyip)

One to watch - Luka Modric (Croatia) and Harry Kane (England)
Prediction - Croatia 1-1 England, England win 2-1 in extra time

What is your prediction? :)

I am not a big fan of England but they have had a good tournament. Though I am still disappointed in their today's game. That 2nd half performance was not a world cup team worthy.

Saturday 14th July, 2pm game time.

It's the dreaded third place play off game. Nobody wants to play this match. Both teams will be dejected after losing out at the penultimate hurdle and probably just want to get on that plane home. European major leagues begin again in a matter of weeks and some players have played continual football since August 2017. Expect to see changes to both teams in this match as domestic clubs will pressure international managers to rest important players. Belgium were outclassed by a very strong France performance in their semi final and key players did not perform. Romelu Lukaku looked sluggish on the ball and struggled to keep hold of it whilst Kevin De Bruyne was unable to influence the match in his usual manner. Eden Hazard looked the most lively but France were setup so well defensively. England fared marginally better in their semi final against Croatia, scoring a sublime free kick inside the first 5 minutes - it was looking to be their day. England then did classic England, sat back and invited Croatian pressure. It was only a matter of time before they equalised. England failed to capitalise on further chances and this ultimately cost them the game. Questions will be asked about Gareth Southgate's game management, should he have made some more impactful substitutions earlier in the match? Maybe. Heartbreak is the only word for this game and the England fans. Who can recover some pride in this consolation game and take the bronze medal? I think it will be a close one with very few chances. I am secretly hoping for a third place finish for the Three Lions however!

Belgium (@Ardo) vs. England (@Punyip) - Good luck to you both as you play for just under 10m gp!

One to watch - Marouane Fellaini (Belgium) and Marcus Rashford (England)
Prediction - Belgium 0-1 England

What is your prediction? :)
