Is it just the top teams in each table that go through?

Sunday 17th June, 12pm game time.

Giantkillers Costa Rica return to the world cup after an amazing run in 2014, topping a group containing England, Uruguay and Italy. Their goalkeeper, Keylor Navas had such an impressive tournament that he was later signed by Real Madrid and is now one of the best keepers in the world. The team also boast some impressive attacking talent to include Bryan Ruiz and Joel Campbell, can they repeat the feat of 2014? Serbia have not progressed beyond the group stages for 20 years and this probably represents their best chance to do so. Their squad includes experienced players with likes of Ivanovic, Kolarov, Matic and Tadic. This is a must win for them if they have any hopes of reaching the knockout rounds.

Costa Rica (@KGBx) vs. Serbia (@Vincent)

Ones to watch - Bryan Ruiz (Costa Rica) and Sergej Milinković-Savić (Serbia)
Prediction - Costa Rica 0-1 Serbia

Sunday 17th June, 3pm game time.

Current world champions Germany make their entrance to the tournament with a difficult game against Mexico. Germany are in a bit of a trasitional period with the likes of Lahm and Klose recently retiring. They have an influx of young talent, which they annoyingly seem to consistently produce. Up and coming players in their squad include Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka and Timo Werner. Germany also seem to have solved their struggle for an out and out striker with the inclusion of Timo Werner and finally Marco Reus, the latter will be a big boost and should take some pressure off of Muller. Their opponents Mexico hold an incredible record of reaching the round of 16 at the last 6 tournaments and will expect to do the same this time around. A somewhat aging squad, the Dos Santos brothers continue to make regular appearances, spearheaded by their vastly experienced captain Andres Guardado. Mexico had an exciting 2014 world cup and shocked many people. Can they repeat this?

Germany (@Sissybear) vs. Mexico (@Cherrycrush)

Ones to watch - Timo Werner (Germany) and Javier Hernandez (Mexico)
Prediction - Germany 3-0 Mexico

Sunday 17th June, 6pm game time.

The most successful team in the history of the game make their first appearance on Sunday evening. Five time winners and always exciting to watch, Brazil have arguably the best squad in the tournament with multiple high quality players in every position on the pitch. Many pundits favourite to the lift the trophy, Brazil will also be looking to avenge an embarrassing 7-1 defeat to Germany on home soil in 2014. Brazil sport a wealth of attacking talent to include the world's most expensive player, Neymar. A lot will rest on his shoulders. Switzerland are expected to finish runners up in this group and have fielded players from many of the top European leagues. Their squad contains a lot of talent from the German Bundesliga and it will be interesting to see if they can continue this form into the tournament. Switzerland have often relied on the individual brilliance of Xherdan Shaqiri who can unleash powerful shots, famously scoring a hattrick in 2014 against Honduras. He will need to be on form if Switzerland are to do well this tournament.

Brazil (@Powerless) vs. Switzerland (@CGBx)

Ones to watch - Marcelo (Brazil) and Xherdan Shaqiri (Switzerland)
Prediction - Brazil 2-0 Switzerland

I predict that Brazil will win and keep winning so I can win this. :D
Like I said in-game already... I know nothing about this sport or these teams but I found out that Brazil is fantastic and I couldn't be happier lol.

Maybe this is some elaborate plot to get me to like it? *scratches forehead*

Tuesday 19th June, 12pm game time.

One of the major shocks in Brazil 2014, Colombia make their entrance into the tournament and will be feeling confident. Much of their 2014 squad remains with the likes of Cuadrado, Bacca and the return of Radamel Falcao (who sadly missed the tournament through injury). Last times Golden Boot winner, James Rodriguez is expected to light up the tournament once more and has found himself playing regularly for Bayern Munich. Japan are one of the more consistent qualifiers from Asia and always play exciting and fast paced football. The vastly experienced Keisuke Honda plays at his third world cup and will be one to watch.

Colombia (@Aquanoise]) vs. Japan (@Rebeca)

Ones to watch - James Rodriguez (Colombia) and Keisuke Honda (Japan)
Prediction - Colombia 2-0 Japan

Tuesday 19th June, 3pm game time.

Poland are another recently resurgent team and boast probably their best ever squad. Talisman Robert Lewandowski is one of the most clinical strikers at this world cup and a lot of pressure will be on his shoulders. Other strong players include Jakub Blaszczykowski and Piotr Zielinski who should be able to provide Lewandowski with plenty of chances. Playing at their first finals since 2002, Senegal find themselves in arguably the most open group in the tournament but will have aspirations of progressing. Star man Sadio Mane will have to be at his best but recent form suggests otherwise, can he step up?

Poland (@ShaneGoesArd) vs. Senegal (@BuyMoreKeys)

Ones to watch - Arkadiusz Milik (Poland) and Sadio Mane (Senegal)
Prediction - Poland 2-1 Senegal

Tuesday 19th June, 6pm game time.

The second round of group stage matches begins with the hosts facing Egypt. Russia were strong in their opener with performances of individual brilliance from Denis Cheryshev (2 goals) and Aleksandr Golovin (1 goal, 2 assists) but Egypt represent stronger opposition. Can they repeat this feat and make a big step towards the knockouts? Egypt will be reeling from their tight opener with Uruguay and will feel unlucky. There are whispers that Mo Salah will return for this game but how fit will he be? A must win game for Egypt, I personally think they will risk him.

Russia (@kev pass) vs. Egypt (@Arron)

Ones to watch - Denis Cheryshev (Russia) and Mohamed Salah (Egypt)
Prediction - Russia 2-1 Egypt

What are your predictions? :)
