how do you like yours? (the quiz)
« on: May 06, 2014, 11:50:02 »
Hey guys,

The quiz in the clan chat on a Saturday night is a whole lot of fun but we've noticed that not very many people are taking part. This Saturday just past there was a lot going on in the CC and it seemed that people weren't up for the quiz after penguins and the week before that, there was no interest either. In the interest of keeping it fresh, I have questions for you. My aim is to find out why the quiz is less popular than it has been in the past and make some changes when we get some answers.

Please have a look through this list, answer what applies to you and maybe give us some suggestions?

  • Are members not taking part because you aren't on at 8pm GMT/BST on a Saturday night? If so, When would be better for you? Later or earlier? Different day?
  • Are the questions just too hard/too easy?
  • Would you prefer it to be in a different format? (example, questions posted on forums, scored with time being the decider if there's a tie)
  • Has the daily quiz that we do negated the need for the CC quiz?
  • Would you like a post on the quiz forum an hour or two before we start to give you the theme?
  • would you like to vote on the theme or have members make the quiz?
  • Do you have any ideas or suggestions for us to make it better?

Thanks for your help!

Emma

I think one of the main problems is that typing speed can play a big role in the current format. Maybe give everybody 15-20 seconds to produce an answer and award points to everybody who got it right. However, even by doing this more people would just use it as an opportunity to copy somebody else's answer so I'm kind of stumped for ideas here :P

This is true cam. We could do answer by pm I suppose but that feel a bit exclusive.

English is easy do-able for me, but some of the questions are English-based and are about things I don't know alot about, since I am from The Netherlands.

With pretty much the same people winning week in week out I find it pointless for myself to compete, I can't type nearly as fast as these people. I feel if there was more of a chance of at least getting the odd point here and there it would be more fun to compete.

I'm generally not a fan of quizzes. I'm not particularly good at them and I have to agree with Rowdy. Many names and titles, for example, are different in our languages. For example, the movie "The Shawshank Redemption" has Swedish title that would literally translate into "the key to freedom". If a question was about this movie and I didn't know its original title, I would translate the title literally and get the answer wrong. It's not that big of a deal though for people who are into trivia quizzes.

I agree with this.

As an additional note, around this time of the year I can't be on at the time the quiz is on but that'll change after exams.

Okay, some good feedback there, how would you like things to be done? So we can like at making questions less British based. Any suggestions for the rest?

To me 'i know I'm not going to win' isn't really a reason not to take part but if you can see a fairer way to do things then put them up here! :)

That's not what I'm trying to say. I just find it unfair that it's always the same people winning the quiz and it'd be nice to see different people winning for a change - I personally don't care about winning. I also feel bad that sometimes people who are slow typers don't end up with many (or sometimes even any) points simply because they don't have the fastest fingers.

Maybe you could put a system in place similar to how Pro & Noob works? For example, if you won the quiz last week you are allowed to participate in this weeks quiz but you can't win, even if you score the most points again. Then the winner of that week can't win next week etc.

thanks for bringing a suggestion to the table Abbie. It's a good idea though looking at the current scores it might just be the same 2 people over and over again? That is, until more people are taking part. :)

Generally I'm not on on a Saturday night, but the hours I play aren't very social (Usually 10pm+). I think a lot of people know Meg will win now :P

The times I have been on for the quiz I don't really know the answers so I stay quiet throughout and by the time I do know them about 7 people have already answered.

Not that much looking at how to improve it but at least it's a view :S

Could do a music one where the song is played over Teamspeak/Skype.... Meg wouldn't win that.

The timing was a problem for me.

Saturday night I am either watching crap TV, debating about another round or sleeping :P
