Salutations!
I'm sure a lot of you have seen me posting these GIFs in my Goals and Achievements thread, and you seem to enjoy them, so I've decided to type up and show exactly what I do to make these!
Now, first of all, I use the program Camtasia, which comes with both of these
I'm not sure if there is another program to do this (I'm sure there are, but I like this one), if so let me know.
When you first open up the Recorder, you'll get a Menu like this:
This is your basic recording screen. You can resize it by dragging the squares on each side/corner, or hit the drop box arrow on 'Custom', and select 'Select Area to Record'.
After you have done this, you'll get a red crosshair and you'll be allowed to click where you want to record. If you are playing on the Downloaded RS Client, make sure you click within the window, like in the picture, rather than where the logo is:
After all of that is said and done, and you have the deminsions needed to record, hit the BIG RED BUTTON, and start the recording.
Note: It will freeze your screen for THREE SECONDS, so make sure you set it up ahead of time.

Editing:
Now, once you have your clip, a video will pop up and just proceed to hit Save and Edit (Assuming you like the clip), and the Camtasia Studios window will pop up.
The first thing I do when my recording it up, is unlink the audio and delete it, as it's just a waste of file size.
Click the Blue line and it should bring up a menu saying would you like to permently unlink, say yes, and then just cut out the Audio.
After that, edit the video by removing any unwanted footage. This is done by going on the time line and hitting the 'S' key (For Split), and you'll be able to select and delete the extra footage.
Your gif should be complete after this, so all you have to do is turn the footage into a .GIF
This is done by clicking the 'Produce and Share' Drop box, and clicking Custom Settings
Then, click 'GIF- animation file'
Click Next twice, and it'll ask you the video size.
I usually do custom and post my full screen, but if I need to I'll hit standard video size: 480x360
After that, create the GIF, let it load up, and it should be brought up in a window (Mine comes in Internet Explorer). After that, just upload it like any regular pictures.
