Complete farm guide
« on: May 15, 2012, 20:08:25 »
So, I was thinking why not edit the Farming guide I made here and make it a little more complete.
To start off with there are 7 specific things you need to keep in mind while farming: Flowers, Herbs, Trees, Fruit trees, Specials, Allotments and Hops.
I'll give you a closer look on each of the 7.

Flowers

Farm patch locations for flowers: Catherby, Draynor, Phasmatys, Ardougne, Wildy lvl 22 (limpwurt only)

Name/Lvl to plant/Seeds to plant/Time to grow/Xp for Planting/Xp for Picking

Marigold/Lvl 2/1 seed needed/17.5 mins/8.5 xp/47 xp
Rosemary/Lvl 11/1 seed needed/17.5 mins/12 xp/66.5xp
Nasturtium/lvl 24/1 seed/17.5mins/19.5 xp/111 xp
Woad/lvl 25/1 seed/17.5 mins/20.5xp/115.5xp
Limpwurt/lvl 26/1 seed/17.5 mins/21.5xp/120 xp
White lily/lvl 52/1 seed/120 mins/50 xp/250 xp

What are these flowers used for?

Flowers are used to protect allotments, check down to know which flower protect which allotment(s)

Marigold protects Onions, tomatoes and potatoes
Rosemary protects cabbage
Scarecrow protects Sweetcorn
Nasturtiums protect watermelon
White lily protects All fruits and vegetables.

Allotments

Locations:  Catherby, Draynor, Phasmatys, Ardougne

Name/Lvl to plant/Seeds to plant/Time to grow/Xp for Planting/Xp for Picking/payment

Potatoes/lvl 1/3 seeds/40 mins/8 xp/9 xp/ 2 buckets of compost
Onions/lvl 5/3 seeds/40 mins/9.5 xp/10.5 xp/ 1 sack of potatoes
Cabbage/lvl 7/3 seeds/35 mins/10 xp/ 11.5 xp/ 1 sack of onions
Tomatoes/lvl 12/3 seeds/40 mins/12.5 xp/14 xp/2 sacks of cabba
Sweetcorn/lvl 20/3 seeds/55 mins/17 xp/19 xp/ 10 jute fibres
Strawberries/lvl 31/3 seeds/55 mins/26 xp/29 xp/ 1 basket of apples
Watermelon/lvl 47/ 3 seeds/75 mins/48.5xp/54.5 xp/ 10 leaves of curry

=> Handy tip from Winter: With doing the allotment run to all 4 locations, doing marigold, toadflax and watermelons (supercompost and payments) it really varies between 5-10k xp per trip. I usually average about 7k but the amount of xp you get mainly relies on how many watermelons you yield. For example, during this farm run 2 herb patches and 1 flower patch had dead toadflax and marigold but I got 150 watermelons in total (quite rare for me to get this many) and I got 9.7k xp.

Hops

Even though not many people farm hops i'll just add the 'table' here.

Locations: North of McGrubor's Woods, Yanille, North of Lumbridge Farms, Entrana

Name/Lvl to plant/Seeds to plant/Time to grow/Xp for Planting/Xp for Picking/payment

Hammerstone/lvl 4 / 4 seeds/ 35 mins/ 9 xp/ 10 xp/ 1 marigold
Asgarnian/lvl 8/4 seeds/45 mins/11 xp/12 xp/1 sack of onions
Jute/lvl 13/ 3 seeds/45 mins/ 13 xp/14.5xp/6 barley malt => use barley on a range
Yanillian/lvl 16/4 seeds/55 mins/ 14.5 xp/16 xp/1 basket of tomatoes
Krandorian/lvl 21/4 seeds/ 65 mins/ 17.5xp/19.5xp/3 sacks of cabbage

Farm Trip

Check this list on where to go:

Fruit trees

Catherby
Brimhaven (can go there by using the boat in catherby)
Herblore habitat (use a juju teleport spiritbag)
Gnome maze (either use ring of duelling to cwars and run there or use Yanille lodestone and run there)
Gnome stronghold (balloon in taverly, magic log needed)

extra for cbers: Elf patch

Trees
Varrock
Lumbridge
Falador
Taverly
Gnome stronghold

Suggested trip:

Start your trip in catherby(fruit tree) then take the boat in catherby to brimhaven (fruit tree).
Once you've done that, you can either run to your calquat tree or tele to herblore habitat(fruit tree).
Then tele to Yanille/cwars and do the Gnome Maze patch (fruit tree).
After that, tele to lumbridge for your tree (tree patch) and then go to varrock(tree patch).
Now go to Falador (tree patch) and run to taverly (tree patch).
Take the balloon there to gnome stronghold(need a magic log) and then do your fruit tree and tree there.
Cbers can put elf tele somewhere in between. You need a teleport crystal for it.

-5 Fruit trees (or 6)
-5 Trees
-Payments for fruit trees and trees
-Magic log

Useful extras

Amulet of Nature

The Amulet of Nature is used to help you keep track of one of your farming patches. But do note that you can only have one amulet of nature at a time. You can bind the amulet to any patch simply by using it on the patch itself. You can manually check the status of your crop in this patch by rubbing the amulet. If you are wearing the amulet, you will receive a message (and hear a distinctive tone) telling you whenever your plant is either diseased, dead, or ready to pick. Note that your plant will only die if you do not react rapidly enough when it tells you the crop is diseased, or if you are logged out and miss the opportunity. Here are some instructions on how to make the Amulet of Nature:
1.First smelt a gold bar from some gold ore and then use an emerald on the furnace (carrying the gold bar and an amulet mould), and make an emerald amulet.
2.Now use a spun magic root on the amulet to finish it (magic roots require Lvl 75 farming to grow). This item is still tradeable.
3.Use the spell that is normally used for enchanting Lvl 2 amulets (emeralds) on it.
4.The finished (enchanted) Amulet of Nature is non-tradeable, but you can buy an emerald amulet strung with a magic root before it is enchanted (note that the string will look different.)

Scroll of Life

The Scroll of life is a reward from the Dungeoneering skill. It can be bought from the rewards trader for 10000 Dungeoneering tokens. Once used, the scroll will disappear, giving you the following permanent benefit: when harvesting patches (including dead ones), you have a 10% chance of receiving your seeds back. You will also gain a 5% chance of getting a tree seed back from a dead tree.

Note that when you are refunded a herb seed, it will not always be of the same type as the herb seed you initially planted.

Livid Farm

For those Farmers seeking an additional method of training, it might be worth checking out the Livid Farm on Lunar Isle. Utilizing quick-clicking and the Lunar Magicks spellbook, this fast-paced minigame involves helping out a local farmer, named Pauline Polaris, who has gotten in a little bit over her head! You must help Pauline with fertilizing and curing a new strain of the wild Jade vine, fixing up broken fences when aggressive Suqahs attack, and re-energizing Pauline when she becomes drained and exhausted.

For those dedicated Farmers who help out, you will gain Produce Points with which you can unlock up to 8 new Lunar spells, purchase 6 different "Wishes" that grant special abilities for a certain amount of time, as well as receive runes, Agility, Crafting, Construction, Farming and Magic XP.

Would love to know what runs you did to gain certain levels.

Currently, I am level 70 and want 80 fairly quickly. Any suggestions?

Well in my vid I described the way I did, I didn't do the fast way, that's what I want to mention at first but I can give you some options.

If you have quite a lot of cash:

70-72: 5x Papaya + 5x Maples/Yews + 3 or 4x Watermelons + 3 or 4x toadflaxes + 3 or 4x Marigold/day
=> the x means that you do that amount per day, not that amount of trips e.g: 5x papaya= 5 papaya trees/day

72-80: 5x papaya+ 5x Maples/Yews/Magics + 3 or 4x Watermelons + 3 or 4 Toadflaxes + 3 or 4x Marigold + 1 Calquat/day

If you don't have a lot of cash, like i did back then:

70-72: 5x Pineapple + 5x willows + 3 or 4x Watermelons + 3 or 4x Toadflaxes + 3 or 4 Marigold/day
72-80: 5x Pineapple + 5x willows + 3 or 4x Watermelons + 3 or 4x Toadflaxes + 3 or 4 Marigold/day

I'd opt for option 2 but it's your choice :)
Let me know whether it helped or not

Awesome!

My friend who got 99 farming a while back did bushes, think he did white berries for money. Is that worth it at all?

I had to do some research on that one, I know I used to add them in my farming trip( herb trip) but I actually mixed up white berries with poison ivy berries.
I think you could do both of them as they give a slight profit every trip you do, you can make an extra 8-10k/trip you do with those white berries and poison ivy berries would make 4-5k profit.

I hope this helped you a bit, let me know.

P.s: i'll add the xp-rates of white berries

Watermelons are strongly recommended in combination with Toadflax(herbs) and marigold it's told to give 7k xp per trip

I wonder who told you that. ;) The marigold isn't needed but it adds about 20k profit per trip and the seeds are mega cheap on the G.E, plus they add a few hundred more farming xp. Also, I use supercompost with planting my watermelons just for higher chance of harvesting more watermelons which means more xp. :)

Name                  Lvl needed         Growing time                     Planting xp      Harvesting xp     Payment

Magic                   75                     460 mins or 7h 40 mins     145                137688.5        25 coconuts

Uhm, think you might have messed up there? :P

EDIT: With doing the allotment run to all 4 locations, doing marigold, toadflax and watermelons (supercompost and payments) it really varies between 5-10k xp per trip. I usually average about 7k but the amount of xp you get mainly relies on how many watermelons you yield. For example, during this farm run 2 herb patches and 1 flower patch had dead toadflax and marigold but I got 150 watermelons in total (quite rare for me to get this many) and I got 9.7k xp so ;D
