All creds for the new theme go to Tek! :) The new design with the lightful colour scheme is on my wish list.

A few things I'll be looking into when I have more time off school:
  • Skilling calculator(s)
  • GP/XP calculator(s)
  • Clan hiscore (similar to Runeclan's but with some additional features)
  • Multiple theme choices on the beta site
  • User editable staff pages
  • Setting up a cron job for the twitter feed, as it needs to be manually fetched atm

If you have suggestions of features you would like to see, let me know. It should probably be noted that I'm more of a back-end developer while Tek does mostly front-end.

To give you an example of a few things that are within the realm of possibility:
  • Previous name checker (wouldn't be 100% accurate due to bonds, but that can still be accommodated for in some cases by e.g. stat comparison algorithms)
  • A lobby chat bot to host trivia games in the CC, look up GE prices for clan members etc (could have similar commands as the runescript bot on irc). Not sure if this would be banable or frowned upon by Jagex, as it would be in the lobby at all times and not provide any in-game advantages
  • Native avatar tracker that's quick to add/remove user access to. Could also calculate how much time each user has had an avatar out
  • Username subscription, receiving an e-mail when a desired username becomes available

However, with my lack of programming knowledge (databases in particular), working in a safe mode environment on the server and without any shell access, I'm somewhat limited in what can be accomplished :P

That sounds, um, complicated. Fair play if you manage to get through it all ha

The first list of features isn't that difficult to make (with the exception of a clan hiscore, but I would probably use runetracker's API for that). The second set of features is a major challenge for a novice like myself and some of it (name checking and lobby bot) would need to be set up on a different server. But as far as making scripts for a bot to use goes, it's pretty straightforward and essentially no different to displaying the same data on a website :p

Looks awesome thanks Tek and Red.
Some things like the new Consentus log with the rocktail and stuff only appears on the new skin, I still use the darkness skin as its much easier for me to read than on the new one, but is it supposed to be showing just on the new skin?

Yes, my intent was to retain as much of the old looks as possible on the other themes so that those who are apprehensive when it comes to change can still enjoy the same forums they know. I understand that some people may use another theme for different reasons, so I have added the new logo to the old themes.

Thank you for maintaining the old themes, my only problem with the new theme is that the contrast of the text and background is not enough for my eyes I really have a hard time trying to read something (especially the purple text) on the new theme that's why I'll keep using the darkness one.
But I have to say it looks amazing well done.

No problem, I understand. I also took the liberty of updating the awards box so that it stands out less on the darkness theme.

Hi guys,

Nice update to the site! Definitely a better, more attractive site than the previous one - though I was only on the basic white theme so not sure what the others were like.

I wanted to throw out some suggestions for you. Of course, I'm not sure what others will think.

1. There's quite a lot of wasted space above the fold of the page that could be used for more valuable content.

So I'd suggest moving 'Header' (which I'd remove the word Header on) up so it's flush against the menu bar. While this is only an inch or two, it will allow for additional features such as login, consentus news, shoutbox and the hiscores to be readable immediately rather than in the abyss that is the bottom before the fold.

2. I would move the Twitter, Facebook and Youtube etc links onto the menu bar itself, rather than within the header.

3. I would move the avator locations entirely to a new location. It's taking prime location right now and I'm not sure it's the best place for it to be used. The hover is a little distracting as well.

With this header empty, I would actually populate it with a rotating slideshow of graphics. These should be focused around big news such as we have a top tier citadel, we have vast amounts of achievements etc. So images to promote Consentus - especially on the logged out page. We want to be capturing users, not purely catering to existing users.

4. The quick hiscores - is this a useful enough tool to take prime location above the fold and in immediate site? I would wager if the above was implemented and so removing avatar locations - the avatar locations could fit here. I'm not really sure why hiscores are on the site, the beta site will have things to do with stats but Runescape hiscores work just as well.

Not really a suggestion but I'm noticing a lot of lag when things are loading on the homepage. I'm not sure where the source is but I have a feeling it's with the scrolling within Consentus news, might be worth checking that out.

Thanks

Luke

How big of a loading time are we talking about? I personally haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary. The scrolling functionality is with a single html element (marquee) so it shouldn't be slowing anything down on a noticeable level

I haven't noticed a longer loading time as such, it seems a little bet more demanding on my pc and I can feel the performance drop when I load the page. Not greatly or enough to complain about. I guess I've always played on older and outdated computers lol.

I have never used the marquee element before so I really have no idea about how it affects performance. My best guess to increased loading time would be that images aren't being cached. We can remove the scrolling functionality of the news for a moment and see if it improves the loading speed. We'd at the very least find out whether it's the culprit or not :P

It's not a massive loading time, it's more of a lag when scrolling.

It might not be the news and it's not site breaking, just thought I'd mention it since I noticed.

Red - I saw your other suggested developments. From a mod perspective, it's against the rules for you to develop the script to do competitions or what not from the lobby.

While it doesn't interfere with your gameplay it breaks the rules in that: normal people cannot use a script for the same person and so it is seen as an unfair advantage but most importantly: Jagex do not permit scripts interfering with their game whatsoever - which this would act almost as an auto typer.

OSRS seems to be fine with it with those different launchers they have but unfortunately RS3 isn't the same.

Thanks

Luke

If it was run via OSRS and set up in an fc, it would be legal, but not if it's via EoC? Neither is a good way to go about making something like this though :p
