Allocating more RAM to the RS Client
« on: October 21, 2012, 22:08:55 »
Alright this is a quick step by step to reduce lag using the RS client

STEP 1:

First of all you need to download the official Runescape client here (If you have it skip to step 2) http://www.runescape.com/downloads.ws

STEP 2:

After you've installed it, go to the start menu and type in Runescape.Prm in the search bar

Step 3:

Open the file that appears in the search bar, it may ask you to use a default program or search for one online (I used Notepad!)

STEP 4:

It should appear like this, there is 256m allocated to the RS client, the numbers in the highlighted part is what you want to change. As you can see i've allowed 1GB of ram to be used (This will stop the client randomly closing too as well as reducing lag)

STEP 5:

Saving the file, don't change the name! just remember to save as 'ALL FILES' otherwise it won't work!

Quick guide nothing special :P

Hm, odd, 1024mb forces you to play in safe mode. 512mb is fine though. Thanks for the guide :)

Thanks for the guide. :) Will use this if I start experiencing annoying lag.

Did you change to 1024, 512 or something else? If 1024 did it make it go into safe mode?

Thanks for this James.

Now as you know, I already allocared 3 gb or something to MC. Does this mean I can not give 2ish to Rs or will I only notice problems if I run Rs with 2 gig and Mc with 3 at the same time when my RAM is 4 gig?

Changed to 1024, and it didn't go into safe mode.
Lucky I guess.

Ye Runar it's fine unless you run both at same time, then they'll start running a tad slower ;p

I tried allocating 2GB of ram to the client and sadly it wouldn't open for me...

If it's going into safe mode then just change the graphics settings... Should see a difference ;P

I've done everything correctly as stated in the guide, but somehow there is no difference?
I'm still playing in 2fps in Maximum detail
