I dont really understand what it is

To put it in it's simplest form, you make a character, complete with a background, personality, traits, ideals, quirks everything a person has.
I'll give you a game, "campaign" or story to follow, and you do whatever your character would do in that situation.

The reason I say it's limitless is because, unlike games where there is a certain amount of content. YOU make up what your character says and does. Does it go to the local Tavern? Does it ask the guards for any work? Does it start to look for buildings to steal from?
There is an end goal that I or another game host will have in mind. But it's completely up to, where your character goes and what they do.

Im still confused

That's exactly what I was thinking, possibly 3!
I had an idea for creating an epic world, for Consentus. So every story, and every campaign, every oneshot builds and changes this amazing epic world! Think LOTR, but more epic!

If anybody is interested in filling Loremaster or DM roles please send me a message and we'll see what we can do :)

I'm new to DnD so I personally wouldn't like to DM at the time, but I'm not new to stories. If possible I'd be delighted to write out quest lines for other DM's to use if they wish. I could write several small ones that a DM could pick up if they hjave nothing planned for their session for example. Stories as small as a fetch quest or something grand. Tell me what you think.

OMG yes, I have wanted to get into D&D for ages but no one in my circle plays. I have no idea how the game is played and will be approaching it from a complete beginners angle.

There are methods that we can use to determine die rolls and play on maps etc online, so we can start looking into them if there is sufficient interest?

If you're going to play online D&D, use Roll20. It's such a nice tool to play D&D online! 8) I'd be interested in joining as well btw (5-6 years player btw) :)

Yeah I've been looking into Roll20! I don't suppose you have some experience with it? Finding some of the bits hard to get my head around :P

Yes yes yes!  I've been playing for over a year...we host a game here, but we don't play nearly as much as I'd like. I loooooove D&D!

@Mini Nub & @Cherrycrush ...come play with meeeee.

Sadly I don't think I would ever have time, but if things change, who knows  XD

So here's a another explanation.

Imagine you're playing Skyrim, Witcher 3, or any massive open world RPG.  Similar to what the studio does, the Dungeon Master (DM) has a laid out a world full of forests, towns, caves, temples, mountains, valleys, swamps, rivers, lakes, ruins, etc - the list goes on forever.  You do semi-similar to what you did in Skyrim or Fallout 4 but WAY more in-depth.  You make your character look how you want, you make them be what you want with the physical attributes you choose.  For example, one of my favorite characters was a part-Elf ranger with OK strength, but superb speed, agility, and perception.  But in this case, agility is referred to as "Dexterity" and perception has the same name.

Say you choose to go into this town on the left.  It's the DM's job to fill that town with other characters you can interact with.  Like RuneScape's NPCs.  But rather than having only the dialog prompts you're given, you can literally say anything you want to these people.  It's the DM's job again to come up with these characters responses to you.  The DM will describe the town to you in as much detail as they wish.  You enter a building and they do it again.  They describe the decor, who is in the room, the temperature of this room, even the smells!  We're the players and the DM is the game engine!

DM example:  "You enter the Inn and you're greeted by a grand warm and crackling fire placed right in the middle of the space.  Tables placed all around, some with the local hunters you passed on your way into town.  It's a very warm, and subtly lit room, but not too bright.  You see trophies on the wall from game in the area.  As you scan the room you see food roasting over the fire, locals relaxing after a long days work, and 3 musicians playing in the corner.  As you walk around your attention is caught by the innkeeper who shouts over 'Welcome friends!  Nice to see you stop in!  If you're looking for a room for the night look no further!  Would you also care for a hot beverage on this cold day?  Perhaps a nice hot meal from today's haul?'"

Now it's your move.  You say what you're going to do.
