League of Legends

Does anyone else in the clan play LoL? I recently started playing (on the EU nordic and east server) and have been quite immersed lately. I started out as an adc (Ashe), but got too bashed at so I'm playing support instead (Sona or Soraka, people seem to appreciate healers, even when the support is a noob). Any advice on what champions are good for beginners who don't like close up combat?

I play on NA, and I've made it as far as Plat 2 in the rankings. I usually just play Riven top. She's my favorite champion and by far a playmaker. When I can't get top lane, I usually support. Sona and Soraka are alright supports, they're easy to learn, but I think they're lower supports, that aren't as good as others.

My favorite support is Janna. She is a great peeler for your ADC. She's really passive like Sona and Soraka is, but can also be aggressive if you play her right. The main thing about her, is her E move. It's a shield that you can cast on any ally. As well as giving the shielded target MORE AD. That's key. With the right ADC partner, you can shield your ADC, he can get some poke in with his increased damage, and take no poke in return because he has a shield.

As for her other moves, her Q is a tornado spell that you can cast, and recast to launch the tornado. The tornado then knocks people up. This is great for keeping the enemy away from your team. The longer you let the tornado charge, the farther it'll go and the more of a knock up.

Her W, is a slow. You can cast it on the enemy, and it'll slow them. Once again, great for peeling, but also good for chasing down the enemy.

Her ultimate is a AoE heal spell that you have to hold do to cast. It creates a healing rain circle around Janna, and any allies will get healed in it. However, when she casts it, any enemies in the circle will get blown back. This is also very huge, because you can blow back people from your adc, once again. The heal is great, but honestly I don't use it too much. I prefer to use the ultimate as a knock back, and then instead of wasting time using the heal mechanic, you can instead use your other spells to peel off more.

Janna is great, and very easy to learn I think. She has a high skill cap, but if you reach it, you can make some good plays with her. She works best with an ADC that you're playing with and can peel for. If you need any other help, let me know <3

Edit: Janna is really good because her E scales with AP. The more AP you have = the more AD and more shield that your E will give. There is an item called Ardent Censer Everytime you heal or shield and ally, you give that person attack speed.

Hey red, I play on EUW and I can help you since im a support main myself. Annie, Blitzcrank and Karma are good supports to learn with. I wouldnt use thresh or bard untill you get more experience since they are the hardest supports ingame. And since you like healers maybe you should try nami but champions like Annie and Blitzcrank are engagers so keep that in mind.

RIVEN MAINS UNITE :Laser:

I play on OCE. Ashe is a great starting champion to play with, as her kit is really straightforward and is used in Tutorial mode. Personally I learnt the game playing Master Yi and Katarina. Though these two champions use melee auto attacks, their kit is easy to learn and they are very fun to play!
If you do happen to play those two champions, but don't like their play style, I'd suggest Caitlyn, Ezreal and Graves. All 3 of them use ranged auto attacks (adc) and are very simple.

Seeing as you're still learning the game, I'd suggest muting other summoners if they continue to be a douche. League does have a toxic community but it can be ignored completely by muting other players. This is done so by holding down tab to open up the scoreboard and clicking on the mute button next to the summoner/s you'd like to mute. Alternatively you can type /mute followed by the offending player's summoner name into the chat console. They're all in the same boat as you, playing bots to learn the game.

I'll write up a guide on the basics of League of Legends

Hey Red,
First, starting off is always bad. I honestly recommend just doing /mute all at the start of every game and play what you want. A lot of people don't know what they're talking about and its a really big blame game.

Second, this meta right now is nuts. You can play almost any champion honestly (but bard he is bad). Support is fine, I main both support and top.

You will end up having to play a top melee role or jungle when you're higher leveled to fill each slot. Right now I can give you champions that are both fun to play and are pretty good in this meta. I don't know what you have unlocked or what is on rotation for bare with me.

I will be explaining in the context of higher levels. Everything pre-30 is play what you want where you want lol.

Top: Maokai, frontline tank fairly easy to play. Extremely strong in this tank meta andis able to make TP plays.
Vlad, safe to play has troubles pre level 9 against hyper aggressive players. W skill is a get out of jail free card basically.
Lissandra, control mage. Brings a shit ton of cc and really fun to play. Has sorta fallen out of meta.
Other choices could be Hecarim, Riven if you're good at mechanics, or Garen because you drop bows on them.

Mid: Liss, Vlad both for the same reasons. Viable in both areas.
Xerath, long range high damage dealing ap. Fallen out of favor due to tanks.
Zed, mechanically complex again, when he is ahead he snowballs. Tough late game.
LeBlanc, goes in hard with a skill but can jump back. Tough to play, high damage.

ADC
Caitlyn is your safest choice. Highest range next to a level 18 Tristana and Kog'maw with W active. Doesn't have the best late game.
JINX, not hard to play, doesn't have an escape so slightly unsafe but she has an amazing late game. One of my favorite ads.

Supports,
Janna/Sona as some reasons said above.
Leona for hard engage. Tanky champ.
Thresh, favorite support easily. Loaded kit. Engage, peel, and disengage. Cannot go wrong with him.
Other choices are Annie (Engager, need to be good with ult skillshot for the stun), and Nautalis, tanky and has a hook. Ult disrupts whoever you hit.

Jungle I won't go in depth because it wont be played as often, but champions that are good are Vi, Sejuani, Rek'sai, Lee Sin, Nidalee, Olaf (is ok), and anyone who brings cc and is tanky. Big list with the current jungle and a new item (cinderhulk).

All of these are just choices, obviously you don't have the luxury to play anything you want however hopefully the names allow you to look them up and see if you want to invest in them and learn them.

All in all, PLAY WHAT YOU ENJOY. It is 10x better to play a champion that you enjoy then just trying to fit what other people say.

TL;DR, Safest champions to play, Lissandra/vlad, Caitlyn, Xerath, Thresh/Janna, whatever jungle.

Source: Gold 1 NA.
Repping all that positive KDA

Edit:
If you're interested in the game, I honestly recommend watching some streamers. Fine a role you like and just turn it on. Don't need to even use sound but you can watch what they buy, where they ward / how to deal with ganks etc.
Today there is playoffs for both NA and EU. Good time to watch and get an idea of what people are playing and will give you a better idea on some champions.
http://na.lolesports.com/schedule/2015-04-06

Not sure what time it is for you but from my post it starts in 7 hours. :P

Edit 2:
ALSO
One of the biggest things you should practice is getting last hitting (Getting CS). 15 CS = 1 Kill. Being able to last hit puts you way ahead. Just being 20 cs above the person you're laning against is almost a whole item component. It will be tough without runes as they are a really big part of the game that can't be used efficiently till level 30, however the sooner you get better at it the better you will be when you actually have the runes/masteries you need.

Used to play all the time, but now don't have a wired connection meaning I get lag spikes every 30 seconds or something. When I did play though, I only made it to like Bronze 3 (I was a noob) and I played lots of aram and normals.

Would love to get back into to the game for when I'm bored but it seems like most of my favorite champs got hit pretty hard with nerfs. Oh and that lag thing... always happens to be right in the beginning of a fight. (salty)
