Title: South Korean Man Married A Pillow
Post by: Only Lilly on February 01, 2019, 10:02:15
It is a story about a man named Lee Jin Gyu who seriously married a pillow he named Fate Testarossa. The wedding is complete with a priest, a ceremony and even the Korean media made a coverage of his otherworldly union with an anime character on a pillow.

Many people found this love story outlandish and strange. How can a man love an inanimate object? Others even suspected that it might just be a publicity stunt. Lee Jin Gyu since then defended himself regarding these criticisms. He stated several times that he is really madly in love with Fate Testarossa. Lee named his dakimura after the character on it. Fate is a character from an obscure anime series named Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha.

Since the time he bought Fate the pillow, he fell madly in love with it. He is even having a date with Fate in malls, amusement, and public parks."My love for Fate is unchangeable, but I will take more time to think about our marriage", said Lee before marrying Fate.

The wedding ceremony took place in a church, and their marriage gained a lot of mixed reaction from the viewing public. Some poked fun at it and strangely, fellow otakus felt inspired by it. Since then, many people confessed love to their waifus and while many people find it strange, we can't judge their fandom taken at a very different level.

I don't understand how that can possibly be valid. Marriage is typically a legally sanctioned contract. In such a circumstance, what are the implications of marrying an inanimate object? South Korea hardly seems like a progressive country in that context as they don't even recognize same sex marriage. And this happened in a church no less, which by itself has a theological significance.

As far as his love and ceremony of it go, I think it's amazing! But marriage is more than just a ceremony, so I'm curious about the legal implications. Not that I particularly care for religions, I'm interested to hear what religion that church belongs to and how that marriage conforms to their doctrines.

Wasn't there a woman that had a relationship with a fence? And I'm sure I saw a thing about a woman who is married to the Eiffel tower or something...

Why not! You could argue traditional marriage is a largely outdated concept these days anyway. At least the pillow was wearing a white dress! XD

It strikes me as- different.  But nobody ever achieved anything by acting like everyone else.  If he's enjoying himself, no matter how eccentrically grotesque I think it might be, then more power to him.

I'd propose to my Tesla (if I still had it) but it'd probably turn me down.
