Extinction Rebellion
In a series of protests, Extinction Rebellion activists have blockaded the London Stock Exchange by gluing themselves across the entrances. A group also climbed on to a Docklands Light Railway (DLR) train at Canary Wharf and held up banners.
Protesters at both locations have been removed, but police warned of disruption throughout the day.
Elsewhere in the City, temporary road blocks have been set up by activists at Bank and Southwark Bridge.

As of Wednesday evening, a total of 1,088 people had been arrested - with 69 of those charged in connection with the protest
More than 10,000 officers have been deployed during the action
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said the protests had been a "huge challenge for our over-stretched and under-resourced Metropolitan Police
What do you make of Extinction Rebellion? Is what they are doing a good thing, or are they just being a nuisance? Will all of this be forgotten about within a few weeks?

Personally I can get behind the issue. We as a nation have done a lot towards tackling Climate Change and improving our emissions. We have also worked with other countries to help them to do the same.
Unfortunately there is an argument to be had that, whilst yes, our emissions are lower, we are importing more goods from overseas, which means those countries which manufacture those goods have greater emissions and there are even more emissions created from the transportation of said goods. It's a situation that requires a delicate balance. If we were to manufacture the goods ourselves, it will create jobs, and keep the money within our own economy, which promotes a stronger economy, which is a win.
Sadly though our emissions will go right back up, a silver lining is that there will be less overall transportation emissions to deal with. The downside to that though, is that with current austerity measures, people just don't have the money to buy British, which could put manufacturers off of the idea at all.
My issue with the protest though is their methods, shutting down public transport routes(which is the most ecologically friendly way to travel within London) thereby stopping people from getting to work and earning money to feed themselves/their children, is disgusting behaviour regardless of the message behind it. Also the adoration of Greta Thunberg, seems to me to be a little cultish.

Complete waste of police time and holding up traffic in London?? What a great way of NOT polluting the air.
. Clearly don't give a monkeys about people who need emergency help. There are other ways of protesting and to be honest why don't these people go to countries which aren't doing enough? I'm all for it but the way they are doing it is stupid beyond belief.

We have to do something as a human race tto help the world we are killing.
How else can they get theor names out there?
I have no issues at all with how these people are protesting, after all we have to somehow make people realise the world is in a mess.
People thought the suffragettes were pains.
We arent the only Country where people are protesting against the powers that be.

I strongly believe climate change is the biggest threat to humanity right now and I do applaud the majority actions of this group. Some things are a bit too far though, apparently the group is actively encouraging its members to get arrested which doesn't set a great example. I guess they are taking a more of yellow vests style approach

Protestors lose all their credibility when they start annoying other (working) people (eg. blocking trains). This way of protesting will only lead to more polarization, not because people aren't worried about the climate, but mainly because they strongly disagree with the way these people do these protests. In our newspaper I read an article about a woman that glued her boobs to the ground... Completely ridiculous!

I can appreciate the point they're trying to get across. But the way they're going about doing it isn't helping anyone or anything.
Climate change is arguably the biggest threat to the entire world right now. Steps are being made to improve the world we live in, but it isn't going to happen overnight, and that's just not acceptable for some people. I've met people who want a complete purge of all petroleum in favour of solar and wind energy RIGHT NOW, which is absolute insanity in my eyes. I used to drive an electric car and fully support solar and wind energy. But even I realize that making a full switch in the next year or so, wouldn't just be impossible, it would be outright dangerous.
Trucking is a big culprit in this issue. But there are so many diesel power trucks in the US alone. Companies like Tesla are developing a fully electric semi which will have a huge impact. Nikola Motor Company (also named after Serbian-American inventor, Nikola Tesla) is also designing a hybrid semi truck to disrupt the market. As an engineer myself though, I have a few opinions on Nikola Corp's truck and how they're marketing it... But that a different talk for another day.

But are they really gluing themselves to stuff or is that just figure of speech?
