How do you feel about England's organ donor program?
« on: June 27, 2020, 08:50:48 »
England just announced that every Englishman over the age of 18 automatically become organ donors with ability to opt out. How do you feel about this?

I think its a great idea, I have always been an organ doner, after all what use to me when I am dead?

People are odd about donating eyes, I hear that a few times.

Isnt it Australia, where we got the idea from?

Reminds of a horror movie, might have been an episode from Tales from the Crypt (whor remembers this show?), where a guy is donated the eye from a killer and he starts seeing/experiencing the deceased's life

I really like England's initiative because there are probably a lot of people like me who don't mind being a donor, but never get around to signing up due to inertia.

I imagine one reason people might not want to donate their eyes is because of open casket funerals

It can't hurt.  It's easier to have it be automatic and opt out, versus having to sign up for it.

Only reason someone I know doesn't like being a donor is because they had a bad experience with a family member who had passed.  They were planning the funeral and the hospital held onto the body for close to a week (or close to that).  They couldn't get something organized to have their uncle handed over.  It sounds more like a bunch of idiots who run a hospital than organ donation being a bad idea.  The details are a bit foggy.  I didn't ask very many questions about it for obvious reasons.  But I can see why they have a prejudice against it.

This is why cremation is ideal.  That and if zombies ever become a thing people are ash.  So they won't be coming back.  BOOM!  Problem solved.

You are automatically able to donate, but the relatives still have the final say, so you need to let them know.

As for the open casket, your eyes are closed?

Its the cornea I think.

When I applied for my provisional license I opted in to being an organ donor. I'd like to think that after I pass I could save someone's life. At the end of the day you don't need them so someone else can have them.

I can see why they've put it in place, however I've already opted out.

This is already a thing in the netherlands, and i dont know anyone who refused it a few years ago when they introduced it.

I dont see the big deal of using organs of someone who is already dead anyway, which might help someone else..

I never cared to register myself as a donor, now im automatically it, which imo creates way more opportunities for people in need.

Theres so many people not registering, even while they would like to donor, or dont care what happens to their bodies.

And if you still dont want to donor, then register yourself as a nondonor.. easy as that. But imo those people should also not cry if they need an organ. Youre not a donor, why should someone else that is give it to you?

I think the problem is is that some people are just too lazy to register for it so that could be why they automatically opted everyone in as an organ donor. If people have a problem then they can get off their ass and sort it out themselves.

I joined the donor list when I applied for my drivers license about 10 years ago.

My organs are no use to me when I am dead and if I can help somebody else extend their life then I'm all for it.
