Title: Xbox 1: Are we ready for a new system? Is this quality?
Post by: nbates93 on May 21, 2013, 20:34:54
Today the Xbox 1 was announced. A lot of 'gunghoe' microsoft game fans have waited a long while for this. Heres the product they have produced: Xbox 1 (http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2013/05/xbox-one/) are you interested? Do you like it? What do you think could be some good/bad things about this? Most importantly, do you think this was just Microsoft trying to keep up with the Sony PS4 and the Nintendo Wii U?

Personally, I think it's a bit rushed.
Although this will allow Microsoft to expand even further as a company, like you said, I think they just want to keep up the competitiveness attitude with Sony and Nintendo.

I know for a fact I won't be getting one, as looking at the product itself, it's going to cost a fortune!

PC gaming from now on.. :P

Thats what i was thinking, theyre bringing it up into the tier of smart phones, and those are upwards of $700 if youre not careful. I am excited for the thought of one, and buying one, in 5 years when theyre on the shelf for 1/5 the price theyll debut at lol

It'd cost far less to just upgrade a half decent computer
Plus there is more to do on PC!:D

Nintendo isn't competition for neither Microsoft nor Sony, the Wii U has so few games available it has hurt its sales.
Sure it sold ~3.5 million units but that's down from its projection of 5 million which is a big loss.

Anyway, Microsoft and Sony have waited too long to release a new console that many people have moved away from the console onto the PC.
No doubt that the companies will have to consider making a loss on sales, rather than aiming too high in price and losing even more people to PC.

It's their first major gaming console in Xbox for like 6 years, that's not rushed..

I personally think that if they go ahead with all the "always online" and trying to stay advanced it'll go wrong. They should just keep most of the stuff old, but update the graphics and gameplay. I won't buy it personally but I am sure people who are will enjoy it. Also I think Woodysgamertag mentioning that they will have a recorder in it so you can record stuff and put it on YouTube without spending money on an HD PVR, maybe more people will get the chance to do that and the gaming community will bloom up on Youtube.

They have integrated it like a smartphone and cable box it seemed. They did not go into much detail with the software or the hardware it is composed of. They barely touched the controller either. I think it is the fundamentals of the system they need to focus most on, not all the things that make up a smart phone. I still don't trust Cod and idk if it is worth paying any more then 500 bucks for this system.

The cod series will have better graphics but I hope with the added servers less lag comp and that bull can be reduced.

Consoles hold back the gaming industry FACT. Producers are stuck with the same hardware for years and years where on the PC they change always advance to the next thing.
Main reason why i hate consoles and love PC's!

Rushed in the sense that there isnt a call for new console software/isnt really much room to go any better. Pretty much atm the only thing they can do is start trying to make it more portable, i.e. less cables overall. I mean really it already has almost everything all the way down to internet explorer built in.

Id agree with this tbh. Until a major technological breakthrough i dont see anything substantial coming from production in changes.

Some time before the official announcement of the Xbox One there was a rumor that the console may have an always online DRM feature.

It's surprising how in recent years it appears that the producers for both the hardware and games have consistently attempted to uphold the argument that always online DRM was an inevitable future for gaming.
The simple notion that the consumer cannot be trusted with their purchase and need to be restricted in some way.

Problem is with always online DRM is that producers generally do not acknowledge the flaws that may arise; e.g. server capability.

Two examples of where server capability has affected always online DRM games are Diablo 3 and SimCity.

On launch Diablo 3 suffered an error 37 stating that the servers were busy, obviously due to the initial hype surrounding the game.

Then there's SimCity, which suffers consistent server problems, from day one, for weeks but EA upheld the decision of an always online DRM game despite the bad reviews surrounding the game, and the handling of the situation.

I never bothered with consoles after the introduction of the PS2, none of them appealed to me.

I got a PS3 cause my wee bro wanted one, and I played if for the occasional get together games with my friends, like Fifa and Rock Band. I don't see the benefits console gaming has nowadays. When the PS was all the rage, everyone used to go over and play with one another. Nowadays, to me, it is all about raging 12 year olds who scream in Call of Duty.

I play for content rather than graphics. Games nowadays apart from a few here and there just does not appeal.

I was a Diablo 2 nut, and nothing has filled that void for me.

I cannot focus on a game, I like to multitask. I will never come to the dark side ;)

They released a lot during a stream that was just Media based. I wasn't impressed with it honestly.

IF I was to get a next Gen console, it would be Ps4 atm.
Already own a Wii U, but haven't played it much just due to lack luster games. Waiting for Pikimin or something. :P

^ This also. I really have yet to find a game that I enjoyed as much as Diablo 2.

Finished reading the article. Really I was more impressed with the parallax scrolling on the website. Whenver I get out I really hope to study website graphic design, or something of the sort.

Steven Spielberg is working on a halo video series that will only be viewable on the Xbox 1.
For any fantasy sport league fans, you'll be able to watch the games aswell as set up your fantasy teams at the same time on the same screen through the Xbox 1.
There was something else mentioned about being able to plug your cable box but I'm not sure why you would plug that in vs directly to tv except for said sport advantages.

Rofl.

Although over the recent weeks, they have been making slight improvements to the console in the terms which users simply refused to get the console. Still doesn't change my mind which of the two consoles i'm going to get though. ;)
