DAVID SMITH ON WEIGHT ROLLER-COASTER

David Smith, once making headlines for his extreme weight loss, gained 250 pounds in the past two years. Now he vows once again to go back to gym and lose the weight. Three year ago David was around 650 pounds, but with the help of TLC, he lost more than 400 pounds, found the love of his life, become inspiration for many and interviewed in every TV networks. Then he lost his confidence and self-love, and gained 250 pounds!

“I wasn’t doing too well. I looked really good on the outside, but inside I was a terrible mess. All my life I was this monster in my head and all of a sudden, to be this good looking guy, it blew my mind away. I didn’t know how to deal with it,”

David said in his interview. This clearly emphasizes the importance of the shift in mindset and also keeping up those goals.

Referring to the question.

People who gain weight and don't make the effort shouldn't get help. The first step has to be taken by them, not by others.

Getting people to assist you when you have made the first few steps and made the sacrifices I accept. But it is a journey I think that should be performed alone, so they can keep to that mentality without the help from others.

When I try and lose a few kilos, the first step for me is getting that diet started, more exercise and getting the mind set. Not asking people for help.

If their weight is caused by a genetically inherited disease and/or at a point where simply eating healthy and exercising won't help them then yes, I believe they should get help.

I also like the idea of gastric bypass surgery for these people but I'm not completely aware of complications with this surgery - however, I am aware not all people can have it (not just in a case of not allowed to have it offered to them or can't afford it).

Motivation and the right kind of mindset is what you need to start and MAINTAIN losing weight. If you don't want to lose weight badly enough then I don't see why other peoples efforts should go on you.

Also, I'd just like to add if somebody loses the weight and are left with excess/sagging skin then I believe they should get all the help they can to have liposuction (not sure if this is the kind of surgery used to remove that due to it being a cosmetic surgery?) due to the fact that they have managed to lose the weight but simply need the excess skin removed to reveal their beautiful body and take off the extra weight.
