During a routine traffic stop Independence (Kansas) Police Officer Timothy Runnels tasered Bryce Masters in the chest for 23 seconds (5 Times longer than any officer is taught to tase) near his heart. This caused the teen to start going into cardiac arrest. As the teen lays on the grounds crying in pain, the officer then cuffs and drags Bryce over to the curb which then the officers throws Bryce face first into the curb. A federal judge released this video yesterday after sentencing the officer to 4 years in a federal prison.

Bryce Masters was legally dead for 8 minutes and assumed to brain damaged for life because of this. In order to even prevent Bryce Masters' death, doctors were forced to put him into a medically induced coma.

What are your thoughts?

After watching the video, I believe the whole situation would have ended a thousand times better if Bryce had just followed the orders of the officer.

Seems a lot of similarities to the lady that was killed ? committed suicide  recently.

The most heart breaking part for me to watch was how he threw him on the pavement, he may have only got 4 years but he has to live with his actions for the rest of his life

He didn't deserve to die, but if a police officer tells you to do something simple, and you refuse, it's assumed that you're hiding something. He obviously should not have been tasered for that long, but it wouldn't have happened at all if he wasn't acting like a fucking idiot.
As for the 4 years, the teen might be brain dead but according to the law that does not make him actually dead, so the officer wouldn't be charged with murder.

That's what really got to me as well, and I'm glad the cop was convicted for it.

With all the police brutality in the US, why do people continue to provoke cops? If I were in a place where the authorities were known to take harsh actions, I'd be more accommodating if anything. The victim was videotaping the incident on his phone, which suggests that he was expecting to be mistreated and intentionally aggravated the cop to be so.

There were so many outcomes of this situation and few of them, if any, positive at all for Bryce. Like the best case scenario would have been to be arrested and go to court, where he would have lost and been fined, as he committed obstruction when he disobeyed stepping out of the car. The car would probably be towed too and he'd have to pay for that as well. And, perhaps the worst consequence of it, it would be harder for him to get a job after being prosecuted. All that trouble to get a viral video about police brutality/mistreatment, and that's his best case scenario. The tazing was actually appropriate in my opinion since he was resisting when the cop tried to pull him out of the car. By that I mean a standard tazing, not for 23 seconds, and the cop was convicted for the duration too. Bryce had so much to lose from his actions. It's a tragedy he chose to gamble with his life

Do you not think that if the cop had been a tad nicer, and friendlier the kid might not have been so scared and more willing to get out of the car? I was stopped by police before and had no clue what I had done wrong, I was terrified and everything was running through my mind.

Seems like alot of this kind of stuff happens in America, i think if the kid just did what he was told it would of been simple same with alot of these sorts of videos however he was asking the cop if he was being arrested and what he had done wrong so i really dont know what should of happened, the thing that made me feel some what sick was the way he was thrown on the curb it was absolutely disgusting and unwarranted.

I don't know, but it seems like a strange reaction to take out your phone and videotape when you are afraid. I think it takes presence of mind to do something like that. His father is an officer as well, so he was probably somewhat trained in how to act in those kinds of situations.

He wasn't scared, he was arrogant. The cop asked him to roll his window down both to see him better and to hear him better. After asking him twice to do it without it being done, that's when the cop stopped showing any politeness. I still believe that most police brutality incidences could have been avoided if the victims did not provoke officers beforehand. I'm not condoning brutality, but if you get in the way of someone trying to do their job just because you enjoy being disrespectful, you can't put the blame entirely on the officers.

You cant go half killing someone becuase they were a little rude to you, even if you was doing your job

There is nothing that gives this person the right to do as he did.
