A married teacher who admitted performing a sex act on a 14-year-old boy has avoided jail and will not be banned from the classroom.Dori Myers had a sexual relationship with the boy in numerous locations while teaching social studies at The New School for Leadership and Arts in New York.
The 29-year-old, who is married to a sheriff's deputy, has pleaded guilty to a criminal sex act but will not be stripped of her teaching licence.
But Myers will have to sign the sex offenders register and has been given ten years of probation.
Manhattan Supreme Court heard she has been sacked from her job at the school in the Bronx after entering her plea.
Pleading with the judge not to ban her from the classroom, her lawyer Andrew Stoll said: "There is a possibility that she could teach adults now or in the future and we want to preserve that possibility.
"She still is a talented teacher and has those skills, and I don’t see any reason to destroy her ability to make a living and to contribute to society in a positive way."
Myers was arrested in January after the victim confided in a classmate about their relationship.
