If Invention was polled
« on: January 23, 2016, 17:59:15 »
Okay so with everything we currently know of the skill, if it was polled in similar style to the polls which OSRS content need to pass before entering the game. Which way would you vote and why?

I would personally vote NO as I don't think it's the skill that the game needs or one which players want. Not to mention it feels like they are rushing it a lot to get it out for their release schedule, when I'm sure the majority of the player base would be content with them releasing it as a complete and balanced skill, say for example in the summer or winter.

So how would you vote?

I would vote yes, though I would vote to have the skill released in one go instead of splitting it into two big updates as they are doing now.

I'd vote yes to a new skill but no to invention, I just don't find invention all that interesting and feel it'll just make the game too easy.

It'll be good for new content like new bosses and stuff probably as they can make them a lot harder than currently but the old bosses depending on how good these add ons to weapons really are would just become a bit of a joke

Also what red said, I'd prefer it so much more if it was just released all together

I would definitely vote yes.

This will allow a much better way to customise your armour and weapons, rather than being like everyone else. All other MMOs allow an increase in customised armour by leveling up armour, adding perks or ranks to gear and Runescape should definitely have it.

I agree that it potentially runs the risk of making combat even easier if the weapons are overpowered, but we don't really know enough to warrant that judgement. A lot of the perks seem to be small addons that really don't have a major impact.

I think this skill will open up new ways to train, which should make it more interesting. I'm personally getting sick of everyone expecting people to follow a specific method of training or else they're bad at the game. The min maxing is ridiculous. With new machines and tools, this could open up many more options for people to choose from as their training method.

I agree that I'd want the skill all at once though. This initial release is purely about combat, but I think the interesting stuff will be the invention guild which is entirely customisable to your playstyle, with skilling machines and such.

With it being an item sink this should also give the economy a much needed boost. This game is filled with completely useless items that may now have a value and worth. Look at clue scrolls, most of the items are worthless or pointless. But if we can use them to make a tool or perk that would improve our gameplay, they're no longer useless.

Definitely one of the more interesting skills that they've come out with, in my opinion.

I would vote yes to any skill really no matter what it was. Maybe it can make my welfare gear more useful and give me just another excuse not to upgrade to t90+ weapons haha :P

Although I wish it would have come out a bit later, because I'm so close to 120 dg and I probably could have maxed before it came out were it to be released in summer

To be honest I'm not completely sure about Invention. I've purposely not really looked in to it too much and I won't be doing it immediately anyway.

I'll give credit to Jagex for trying new things with a combo skill though.

I suppose we'll just have to wait and see how it turns out.

I'd vote no, as it seems to have no definite reason for the cap being higher xp-wise and level wise than most skills.

HOWEVER, if the ability to augment tools was to be discussed, I'd give it a definite yes.

I would probably have to stay neutral; not in favour, nor against it.

Like with Xeno, I don't see why the level scaling has to be different to other skills. There's not really a point to it... it doesn't make the skill any harder, cooler or more impressive. Really, it only causes confusion within the community.

I haven't tried the skill yet, nor read much about it tbh, but it seems pretty cool from what I think it is.

From what I've gathered, this is what I think Invention is:
Kill stuff > level up weapons > destroy for more XP (economy bonus) or keep for halved XP.
Cut trees or stuff > level up tools > destroy for more XP (economy bonus) or keep for halved XP.
Positive reward: Add gizmos to your main weapons/armour/tools to improve them for your specific needs.

That makes it seem a lot more like an add-on skill, granting bonuses to your overall gameplay while you just level it up doing the things you like doing - kind of like Slayer, but different and more rewarding.

That's just my opinion, I could have no clue what Invention is like.. I'm just putting pieces together from what I've heard. :P

I love the effect invention has had on the economy so far. It's a pretty alright skill in my opinion, though I wish it could be utilised on all skills.

Believe it or not I would probably still vote yes. Now that I have made a few more useful perks and plan on using them for certain bravery awards that I'd like to complete it is a skill that is at least semi useful. All other skills seem to come to an end game point where you do not really desire to train them past a certain level or you decide to train all to 200m. I think it has been made too soon however and released before many in the community were ready to tackle the changes. As mainly a skiller its encouraged me to do skills like fletching, divination and smithing which i had really put on a back burner until Invention came out.
