Heavy Metal.
« on: May 14, 2012, 00:52:22 »
Okay, so just a little intro here, before I get started. I run a page on Facebook dedicated to Heavy Metal (You can find it below if you would like to check it out and throw me a like. :p ). Heavy Metal and music in general is my passion and it makes up the very essence of my soul.

http://www.facebook.com/MetalHeadBoss

Anyway, I ran a debate on my page earlier today and I thought I would run it here as well.

Here's the basis:

Heavy Metal, today, is a joke. There are too many bands out there that are bigger than they should be. All of the music that they play is missing everything that Heavy Metal represents and stood for back when it was on it's rise. Metal was something to be proud of. It was something to fear.

So, what is your opinion on the state of Heavy Metal today?

I lost most interest in heavy metal. I used to be a huge fan throughout my high school years but just grown apart.

You can't beat the ones that define heavy metal, such as Iron Miaden and Judas Priest. Back then, they put heavy metal on the map.

What would you consider as bands that are bigger than they should be? I used to love to listening to Avenged Sevenfold and Trivium but just bored of them. Don't get me wrong I still love some of their songs, but their new stuff doesn't interest me at all.

I just guess the way of how music is produced nowadays is the reason for the decline of heavy metal and every band mainly doing it to look 'cool' or for the money in my eyes.

I don't like heavy metal at all sorry. It doesn't really feel like music to me, I prefer it to be either peaceful or exciting.

Then don't post on this thread.

Exactly. These bands and bands like these such as, Black Sabbath, early Metallica, Megadeth, Heaven and Hell, Exodus, Testament, Cannibal Corpse and Death all paved the way for Heavy Metal. It's just so sad that their influence is dying out.

Avenged Sevenfold, Suicide Silence, Black Veil Brides. All of the "-core" type bands that aren't playing Heavy Metal. Just noise. What's sad is that all of these kids now a days think that this is what Heavy Metal is and it breaks my heart. It really does.

I agree, the Music industry in general is declining heavily in quality of music. All anyone cares about is the money. It's sickening.

If you're going to post a thread on debates. You have to accept that other people have opinions and they're free to post them.

Thats what debates is for. So you can show your opinion.

Music evolves over time. There will always be people who prefer the new over the old.

I'm not a fan of the bands/genre, but I respect them. Same with Black Metal. They created a foundation/style for newer bands to build off of. Just as some people prefer an antique automobile over a new Lamborghini, there are people out there who would rather listen to Dissection/Carcass/Morbid Angel than The Black Dahlia Murder (all-time favorite band).

I'm not a fan of the music industry at all, to tell you the truth. Five minutes ago I had to listen to Justin Bieber - Boyfriend play on the radio, while the last time I heard Biggie or Tupac play was months ago. It sucks, but there's nothing we can really do about it.

Yes, but if you read what I asked closely, you would notice I asked what your opinion on the STATE of metal was. Not whether or not you liked it.

some genres of metal i like
some i hate - screamo
some bands deserve more credit than they get
and some bands have way too much

personally, i do not go too deep into metal (carcass) etc anymore, and prefer more tuneful... rhythmic and melodical, with vocals i can usually actually hear...
there is always a fine line also between rock n metal. as they have converged in some bands
tbh, the polarization of popularity for metal bands etc , and indeed from the rest of the "music world" seems a bit shitty to me

lets go back to the days with the sex pistols on the radio :p

The main decline for rock itself has to be mainly because of the clubbing scenes nowadays.

The charts today reflect the music that is always played on the radio and in clubs. Rock will never enter the charts again unless it has some pop behind it, as there is no real market for it.

Rock is mainly loved by those who experienced the growth of it, or are still in highschool  ;)

Can't even understand what they are saying half the time and it's just depressing to me. Gives me a headache as well.
