What right have we to imprison animals in zoos?  I will hear you all say about endangered species in controlled environments, I agree to a certain degree to these.  BUT we need to make sure the controlled environments are as need to their natural ones as possible.

Do we agree that we have the right to lock these animals up so we can have our pictures taken with them?

of their minds.
Studies have found that lions in zoos spend 48% of their time
pacing and 40% of elephants performed stereotypic behaviours.

What gives us the right to control these living creatures? 

What gives us the right to cut down millions of squaremiles of rainforests? Those animals are safer in zoos since their normal habitats are getting destroyed by us humans.

Or making trashislands in the pacific with the size of Denmark.

I disagree with how most zoos treat their animals - they need to be in their natural environment which includes surroundings, space and climate. However, the "zoos" that I've visited recently seem to treat their animals very well by attending to their needs and way of natural living.

Elephants in the wild for instance, are used to traveling many miles a day in herds of about ten related adults and their offspring. They are very social animals.

In zoos, elephants are usually kept in pairs or even isolated. Their enclosures are incredibly small, compared to what they are used to in the wild. Elephants often show many signs of being stressed out or bored, like engaging in repetitive movements.

It is no surprise that elephants don't do well in zoos at all. The average lifespan of zoo elephants is about 16-18 years, while wild elephants can live 50-70 years.


Zoo is cruelty

I don't agree with zoos caging animals. However, I do agree with wildlife preserves. If we give animals untouched land to roam free from the threat of poachers and hunters, that's good, but we also have to put in other animals that are their prey and predators, to keep them normal.

england has very strong laws regarding zoo's etc

personally i feel this:
if its endangered, its our fault usually, and to not put them in a zoo - to try and save the species and rebreed them- would be even worse that we COULD have done somethingbut didnt

if the zoo setting is natural, spaced etc - that is good, as are most, so yes abbie it can be good like the one u have been to im sure

i myself have only ever been to two zoos - whipsnade in eng, and one in germany, both had high standards

that depressed gorilla.. well.. psychologically stimulatory wise he is still with his own kind and has the social stimulus, they are fed, cleaned and watered. theres sometimes still a limit of what can be done

i guess, you cant please every human with things - probs same for you cant please every gorilla :p

i do agree putting them in wildlife reserves (if not endangered) thats protected is good - but we have to get any species/country to that state that it is safe.
but then theres poachers etc, so theres not anywhere safer than  azoo, where they can live longer lives etc

Zoos are required by law to make the "cages" mimic the natural environment of the animal being sheltered as possible.  Zoos are NOT made for entertainment/profit; they're made to research, preserve, and breed animals.
