Q&A - Timed Hi-scores and more! [Reddit]
« on: August 22, 2017, 22:32:20 »
Q&A from this week, posted by  imsuity on Reddit

Q&A streams will be made regular again now that expansions have been scrapped
Looking to have one weekly in September because a lot to talk about
If we think it'll be a filler stream we won't do it
UB stream every month
Month ahead stream on 5th September
One year anniversary of skilling pets - Max has JOAT and a skilling pet following him
Shattered Worlds anima rates should've been something we got right on release or soon after release
We can look at variance of Shattered Worlds in the future

Ninja projects:
Timed HiScores
New slayer creatures (see below)
Boss drop log (see below)
Stu's F2P stuff - Warrior's guild, defenders, a bunch of quests (inc Broken home), Paterdomus area, potentially even more (currently discussing Fletching)

F2P
focus is healthy for the game
A lot of people use F2P as a 'demo' - if you're treated as a second class citizen you won't like the game
Should be enough content for the choice to remain F2P
People who lose membership - we want you to continue playing

Timbo will fix the LOTD GWD2 issue
Timbo will also add a message to the LOTD to show what it dropped when it shone (HSR will tell you what was doubled)

Poll to remove MA in future (or removed without poll)
Slight delay on Achievements
Found a few critical bugs
Coming out very soon
Niche uses outside of TierScape (i.e. Darklight, Keris) is something we want to do but not right now
Seed rework/rebalancing is on hold currently but has been progressing - trying to fit the right content to be released with it (Timbo has 6 solutions but depends on which content they're attached to)
Not looking to rebalance PvM drops currently - future drop tables will be wary of adding skilling supplies
Gold accumulator
Waiting for a proper model for the permanent gold accumulator
Not removing the old one, existing system will work but can just buy a new permanent one
1.5M DG tokens for perm accumulator

Clans
Since a lot of clan-related JMods have moved teams, Shauny has been given more to do - clans being one of them
Not looking to do massive clan updates like clan permission reworks
Doesn't want to guarantee anything
Shauny want to do a TAPP

Boss Drop Log
Updating items that we know players have gotten themselves , for example:
Raids Armour
Kiln/Fire Capes
IM drops
The reason for this is because all items are untradeable, pets/lore books will automatically tick themselves off when this update goes live

Beach
Will be removed on Monday 4 September
Cocktails etc last until October

Balthazar's Raffle
Raffle aka Flaref0x's purpose in life returning in September
Anything to combat abusing alts? Osborne: not that i'm aware of, will have to check
Timbo: there's so many tickets alt abusing (based on previous raffles) didn't seem to have a significant effect
Returning golden sets
Godswords
Warpriest
Barrows
Darts, deposit boxes, protean packs
IM won't be able to get certain bits
Largely returning a favoured piece of content rather than creating any substantial change to the 2015 raffle
P2P only

Runefest

Second stage will be streamed
Ramen will be hosting the combat talk as well as talking about his personal projects
Debating whether Mod Mark and Osborne or only Mark should give the RuneScape Reveals talk
Osborne feels that since the theme is back to the roots - it would make sense for Mark to give the talk on his own
A lot of things to announce that they haven't spoken about yet
Unfinished Business
Timbo will talk about 'the next 5 years in skilling'
What we want to do
What skills we want to add
What reworks we want to do
A lot of survey results will be used
Skilling diversity - choice between better XP or better GP
A few tickets remaining
Something RS has been missing for a long time will be revealed at the end of RF as a 'mic drop moment'

Timed HiScores

Upcoming timed HiScores
Fastest QBD
Fastest Telos @ 200%
Fastest 13% Med C6 DG solo
Fastest Araxxi
Fastest Nex solo
Fastest 13% Large C6 DG 5:5
Begin 04 Sep
Will run for 8 weeks
Afterwhich we will cycle through each of them rather than have all 6 up at once so people can focus on 1 HiScore at a time
Will be monitored in case of bug abuse/cheating
If this works really well we'll look at other bosses and other HiScores (e.g. repeatable quests)
Looking to expand it - Timbo has a Dev Blog
Will Elite DG outfit work
Ramen: Good point but won't answer
Timbo: AFAIK it works and we can go back and discuss it + player opinion

Unfinished Business

Stream update in a few weeks
Vorago quest is not being worked on - there are better things to spend time on (Ramen is working on PvM QOL)
Seers' Village and Camelot graphical update
Paused a little due to 'something we're announcing at Runefest taking up his time' but will kick back up soon
Unlikely to be doing Dorg or Oog'log next because they are rarely visited - other places like Varrock should take priority
Players were promised Karamjan god-related content in 2013
Tied into one piece of game content that got 'a bit delayed'
Osborne is not sure whether to detach it and tell a story with it or wait until that piece of content comes out
Are these considered UB?
Floor 61 - 100%
Raids II - Yes
Fossil Island - Not so much (while it is UB we didn't put it on the poll because we want to give OSRS their space to release theirs; if they came out at the same time everyone would compare them)
Evolution of Summoning - No (Jagex have forgotten what EoS is)

Invention Batch II
September release
Machines work while offline
No plans for tech trees - though Timbo wants to do one in TAPP

Bank Rework
Re Bottleneck/pausing of the rework: 'If it was a dev problem, if it was something the developers could work on we would be doing it right now because it is the highest priority out of any project that we have. Problem is it's hit something that we do not have the headcount to deal with because it's tech stuff'
Don't want to give the impression that one team can't handle the work load which isn't the issue here

Slayer
120 Slayer counts as unfinished business since the top end was not filled/not much variety
Ramen is working on 3 new slayer creatures
104, 106, 108 levels to kill
Mechanic-wise
Not so AFK but not mechanically intensive like Ripper/Mammoths
'More difficult version of Glacors' - not as lean-back as them though
Some new mechanics we haven't tried before
Currently going through balancing
Count as one task (eg Polypore, Jadinko, Soul devs) - choice will be based on playstyle
Theme: cute but deadly (not chibi cute, something very different from that; RS styled )
Don't want to reveal too much because it is tied in with something bigger (to be revealed at RF)
the slayer creature.
WIP shot, playing with lighting to make a pretty environment
Wanted to make something outside; 'touch mother nature' - most slayer creatures are in caves or dungeons etc
WIP placeholder (everyone on twitter thought it was a water slide)
Will be added to Slayer Codex - players will probably lose their title
Corrupted Slayer helm will be addressed

Polls
Some of the Ice Dye poll text has been reworded earlier today because it was a little bit biased in its options
If we think that repolling will make a substantial difference with the new text we will redo the whole poll otherwise we will continue the current poll with the new wording
Why didn't we just poll all options?
Looking to do surveys in the future with multiple questions in one (this should remedy some of the issues players have with poll wording)
'Still finding our feet with the polls' so those people saying why don't they do this or that, we might look to
If we have say 5 options, we found things were winning with 25-35% of the vote (i.e. large portion of the playerbase didn't choose it)
Obviously you can go on to do subsequent polls (eg semi finalists etc) like with combat polls - polling over and over will take a lot of time and slow us down
Biggest reason is that with multi-option polls, one that doesn't win eventually gains enough traction (e.g Invention and Floor 61) - with this it'll be, 'I really liked that dye that didn't win when are you bringing it out' - why not both? etc
Osborne likes the idea of saying: 'This is the idea that we, Jagex, think is best for the game'
Why 75%?
OSRS does it, we don't want to think our community is any different
If we didn't do 75% people would say well OSRS does it why are you treating us differently
Self-expectation - if our design and decision isn't achieving 75% then we're doing something wrong
We want to make sure players want what we poll
Re: polling something against nothing
We as a community need to say 'no' more often (OSRS is already there, we aren't there yet)
'But we don't know what no means' - no doesn't have to mean the idea is scrapped, tell us what you didn't like and why you said no. If it's just some amendments we'll do it and repoll. If it's 'this idea is absolutely rubbish' we'll scrap it and choose another option.
If we reveal the other options, the other options become unfinished business which we don't want - we could show them, maybe in the dev blog
If you do not like the ice dye, if you do not trust Jagex that ice dye is the best option, then just vote no (Osborne would like people to vote no more often)

Mining and Smithing
Strawpoll was 78% but social media was less positive so we will poll it
Dev blog this week about the High Level update proposition - before the poll next week
New armours, reasons to train, money-making methods, maybe something like LRC 2, and guild additions

It's great to see F2p getting some attention recently, I've even noticed some fixes and release of member content in patch notes over the last few months O.o
