Save RuneScape Classic!!

Hello RuneScape Lovers!

My name is Viktor and I am a RuneScape veteran. My skiller name is N0obish Newb. I am a retired skiller, retired clan leader and active RuneScape Classic player. I am in need of your help!

JaGEx made the announcement one of a half month ago that they will close down RuneScape Classic. I need your help to change their mind! To keep at least a few servers opened, just for us! There is a legit community of maybe 15-30 actively playing who need your help!

We play, despite all bugs and bots. I would rather see RuneScape Classic break totally than to see the game I love die off completely. I do not want to join a private server. I do not want to play OSRS or RS3. I am in love with RuneScape Classic and that's the game I want to play.

Many of us have given up hopes. I have seen suggestions of single player version of Classic. I have seen it suggested to give bot developers the code to Classic. People are recording their session because they are afraid of the preservation of RuneScape Classic. There are players, both legits and botters who really love the game, and don't want to see it gone!

I don't care that the game is breaking by bugs. I don't care that most are botters. I don't even care if anyone believes I bot that game because most people who play that game can't even imagine people actually play it legit. It is bot infested, and it is bug infested. I am fine with that! I can live with that! I would rather have it break than having it closed!

Please, please please, I beg you all! Do something! Post on the official Classic Forums! Show your support, show that you care for the preservation of history! Show JaGEx they should be really proud of their fantastic legacy!

Its lovely to meet someone who is so passionate about Classic, but to be honest, I don't think they'd save it just for a handful of legit players. Thats like asking for the banks to keep old money (pounds shillings and pence) going for the 20 odd people who still have no clue how new money work.

Like most companies they streamline every now and then, and just like Fanta, they discontinue something that is loved, if only by a few. It'll save them money in time they can invest into new content/staff etc, and thats what companies have to focus on. It'll upset people, but you're trying to reverse a decision that will only affect a handful of players, no matter how passionate they are.

Classic servers will be shut down. You have a better chance of winning the lottery, being struck by lightning and seeing pigs fly in the same day than reversing this decision.  :/

Out of curiosity, why don't want you want to play on a private server? I always thought servers like RSCA was more fun than the official RSC because more players and activity (obviously) and fun community events. Haven't played on a private server for many years though.

I remember the big fear back when I played on private servers was that it would inevitably shut down (all that progress lost), because Jagex were always making efforts to take them down. But I'd imagine they no longer bother wasting resources on that, and with the official RSC closing down, there's an increased interest in private servers. Maybe they even have a few players competent to develop them. Everyone who played RSC is an adult now. Surely there are plenty of devs who play it and would be happy to put some time in :)

@Miss Mudds Thank you for your comment, you have fair points.
There is difference compared to the first example. The wish for having Classic opened is not based on ignorance or confusion. The banks can come out with a new coin to trade with and not everyone knows how it works. While there is confusion about the decision, their plans are perfectly clear. I play Classic because I love that game and not because I don't know how RS3 works.

The cost of keeping five servers or less opened (maybe just 1?) isn't very high. The community surely has more than funded the cost of these servers. Not only that, Classic has much preservation value that would go lost if that is to be closed.

The loss of reputation for disregarding veterans will also be increasingly damaged. That's a cost which is greater than any sort of gain they would get from closing the servers.

If I am not mistaken, I have heard WoW has released its Classic version, is that true? If so, do we really want RuneScape to sink below the level of WoW? My initial attitude was that Classic couldn't be saved, but I prefer the path of resistance over the path of acceptance. I will fight until the end, whatever the outcome is.

@Redtunnel There are a few reasons for that. Firstly, I haven't heard a single popular private server which has been true to the xp rates. Maybe there is one, but I believe the major Classic clan doesn't know of one. Secondly I would like to see who is online on the other versions of RuneScape. About the amount of peoples, I mostly prefer solitude. I have also walked around on a regular RuneScape 3, it has been relatively empty there as well.

I think the best course of action would be to talk to the remaining community about setting up a new private server for you to continue playing on. That way you could even have your own character names, stats and items on there if you document it all before the official server goes down. There's no way Jagex would change their mind unless they have a monetary incentive (which they currently don't have)

When I visited consentus clan-chat, people were being toxic against me- including Ardo. I pointed out the source to the toxic attitude- and I am the one who's being attacked. I point it out so you can be aware of it, and have the opportunity to help yourself.

Private server is something we talk about setting up, and it's also something that is planned to be set up. That will be set up regardless of my involvement with private server or not. But I want to be able to talk to the same people as I would if I were to log into RuneScape 3, or Old School RuneScape. Be connected to the same Friends List as if I were playing the other games. Not having to know my friends through other mediums, such as Skype, discord.

JaGEx have let veterans down many times over and over. They done precisely what those who destroyed the game have done, even gone so far as to having sold experience for real world cash. I see no integrity in JaGEx. They don't care about the people who are the most interested in playing the game. I know they only follow the money. I also don't really agree that there's no monetary value in just keeping the server up until it is unplayable for real. There are bugs, and there are bots, but we can still play it. The cost of the servers aren't high. No talk about maintaining the servers, banning bots, or fixing bugs, just keep them opened.

There will always be people that disagree, and your passion to keep Classic open is apparent.

It will do no one any harm to keep it open which is why it saddens me to see negativity on this thread.

How am I being toxic because I think that it is not worth to use resources on keeping alive a game, which is played only by handful of people. These resources, which are at the moment used on RSC, could be used on something much more useful.
