Skilling boss!
« on: September 08, 2016, 17:22:47 »

Today OSRS got a skilling boss, something we've yet to see in RS3; How would you feel about the idea coming to RS3? I personally think it would be a nice change and something which I'd love to see (slightly bias being a skiller).

I wouldn't mind if it came to rs3 or not. If it is something that will make skillers happy  I am glad to see it come since they are a big part of the community. Personally tho I think that  whole idea of a skilling boss is a bit silly.

Hopefully they can use the Osrs one as an experiment and make an even better one in RS3. Would be cool if we could do the skilling boss as a clan

I'm sorry, but this is as much of a boss as Jadinko Lair firemaking is  :xD:
The only difference is Osrs is using a health bar instead of a favour count.

If they could create skilling mechanics that involve a measure of skill, I would be all for it. I would consider Tuska a skilling boss for example, and it wasn't fun content

I have been waiting for a skilling boss in RS3 for years... I'm surprised it's taken so long.

The OSRS skilling boss doesn't seem that impressive at all.

Hopefully though, we may see a better skilling boss in RS3, I believe it was polled?

If you don't pay attention you can die pretty fast. (50+ hits if unlucky)
You also have to eat constantly.
Done 186 kills this far.

I'm sure they will eventually release a skilling boss on RS3. I've done some Wintertodt on Old School and although it's quite simple I had a lot of fun doing it, and the drops keep it rather exciting. So hopefully we'll see one next year on RS3.

I like the idea of a skilling boss, I think. Though I couldn't tell you how a skilling boss should function.

This Wintertodt seems to be more like a minigame to be honest. It reminds me a little bit like the Evil Tree we have in RS3. You have to cut its vines and set fires around it. It's essentially the same mechanics.

I think maybe a skilling boss (solo) could be that you control troops, and you're positioned in the base. You have to construct weapons/armour with smithing, bows and arrows with fletching, potions with herblore, food with cooking which you can distribute to soldiers/the front lines where they're trying to kill the boss on your behalf.

And because there should be as much risk as losing to a skilling boss as you do with a PVM boss, I think you should have to invest the raw resources to complete the tasks. So the logs, the ores/bars and the food. Then if you fail, your supplies can be plundered with a set cost to reclaim them. Just like if you die you have to pay to repair your gear.

I dunno how they'd do it, but I'd hope it's something a bit more creative than this boss personally.

If they do make a skilling boss I just hope they can make it feel like a boss and not like a minigame. A couple of the suggestions I've seen for how a skilling boss could work remind me more of existing minigames rather than boss fights.
