Bots banned during August
« on: September 03, 2015, 15:45:36 »
In an offical J-mod post on the forums which can be found here, one of the things listed were the amount of bots banned during August 2015.

"And here are the bot ban stats. The below chart shows the number of bans we've made in August - as you can see, our specialists have squashed over 100,000 bots across both the main game & Old School game."

"We almost always apply a permanent ban when we find someone who's cheating, but on rare occasions, depending on a number of circumstances, we'll instead opt to issue a temporary ban with trade & game restrictions to act as a very firm warning, as well as removing anything gained through cheating. These are extremely rare cases though, and the main message is: cheating won't go unpunished!"

So, what do you make of the statistics? I'm amazed at how many OSRS bots were banned in comparison to RS3 bots!

Not surprised to see soo many osrs accounts banned. Although I don't see many bots nowadays.

Most must of been free to paly, as the worlds there are swarmed with bots. As for members, there are hardly any.

It's great I guess, but frankly, it's hard to be enthustiastic about mass bans knowing that there probably were a few legitimate players banned as well. I miss the days when it was easy to shrug of people's claims of innocence as lies on their part.

I have zero faith in any bot busting that Jagex do, I know people have been falsely banned with NO WAY of a fair hearing or appeal.

Once again, Jagex favoritism.

I'm not overly enthusiastic about anything on this thread. The only thing that caught my eye was the statement "On banned accounts, later today we will open banned account review threads on our forums and reddit to gain data to refine our heuristics – keep an eye on the forums, reddit and twitter for more info later today!".

I have faith in the bot busting system, I do however suspect that not every single banned account is due to botting.

I see loads of posts on the RS Facebook page/Reddit saying that they were banned for macroing, I suspect 99% of them were legit banned for botting.

Unless I get banned myself for botting, I will stick with what I think on the matter ^^

Hopefully it will work better than their costumer service and help some wrongly banned players get their accounts back.

August alone?! I knew it was a thing but i didn't realise it was that bad. I rarely ever see the bots around nowadays. I've got a hard time believing those stats are really accurate though.

Obviously we all know their system is 100% accurate, but when they've banned 100,000 bots in a month, chances are that 99,950 of them at least are real bots.

I'm glad to see that they don't just give up on bots.

I would like to know how many questionnaires were filled in?  We all know how percentages can be played with to look good.
