Average Player Count
« on: December 11, 2017, 11:16:04 »
Statistics for last Month (November 2017) showed that RS3 had its lowest ever average player count with only 23,290...OSRS had an average of 43,728.

OSRS Yesterday peaked at its highest number of players online, 71,834 will the start of their next DMM seasonals...

I love RS3; but what significant changes do you think need to be made to stop the decrease? OSRS have over x3 the number of players; I know they have a lot more exposure from DMM and stuff like that, maybe RS3 needs to bring back Darkscape and run their own DMM style tournament?

I think comparing its lowest average to OSRS hingest player count is an unfair comparison.

Saying that though, I dont think RS3 has reached that number for a while, at most it would have been DXP weekend.

As for seasonal events, i think it a a complete waste of time. Nobodyon RS3 PKs, only griefers.
OSRS seems to have a healthy PvP community, excluding ROTS.

Also, how many of those accounts are bots and alt accounts?

I think RS3 is doing just fine, as long as we dont have TH shoved down our throat again throughout 2018.

Okay I realise displaying yesterday high amount does not help show an accurate representation. Nov 2017 average player count for OSrs was 43,728.

Source which shows comparison:

Osrs had more active users even when it was BXPW on rs3...
Im sad to say but the better game wins here ;)

I feel like the biggest problem with rs3 is that it's only really got one thing, and that's PVM. Skilling is fun but essentially 100% devalued and 99s don't really mean anything. PVP is non-existent, so pvpers wouldn't really play rs3. The only thing that's popular is bossing, and even that's not really too good since the economy is so inflated. If you look at osrs, 99s are still valuable, there's still competition on the leaderboards besides 1st place since Lynx Titan will basically never be caught. PVP is still a thing, and PVM is active enough since they've got GWD and other stuff. RS3 needs to either revamp skilling to bring it back, include a huge gold sink that will make money worth anything, or try to find a way to revamp PVP.

IIRC, at runefest they said that they want to revamp skilling in the next four or five yrars.

They want to give all skills something to aim for besides 99.

They used overloads as an example, saying the want to give th a same feeling/equivalent of aiming for overloads in every skill.

Problem with this is that it's about 5-10 years late.  #-o

Exactly, and at the current rate it won't be long until 200ms are the new 120s. RS3 just isn't as friendly to newer players, and it's hard to get back into if you're returning especially if you make a new account.

I think it's important to note RS3 numbers have still remained fairly consistent over that time period, never falling below 20k. Yes it's a steady decline, but not as massive as people seem to make out. I think the argument that RS3 is dieing and everybody is leaving for OSRS is a bit over exaggerated. It's only recently OSRS has had a greater market share of players and the graph doesn't appear to suggest the gap is widening? At least for the last few datapoints both game mode numbers are fairly parallel.

Of course, you can spin conclusions about data to suit whichever argument you like :D
