A friend/Dovydas banned
« on: August 23, 2018, 18:13:26 »
A friend published a sponsored video yesterday to promote a gambling website.  In the video, he stated that the people who sponsored the video gave him enough money to be able to completely buy a house and still have over $10,000 left in money.

In the video, A friend can be seen given 1,000M GP to stake with on OSRS, which was part of the sponsored video. As of today, A friend has been banned on all Runescape accounts for RWT.

What are your thoughts on this situation?

The following is a post created by Mod Ayiza over at 2007scape.
It’s been brought to our attention that some members of the Old School RuneScape community, especially those with a large social influence, have begun associating themselves with and promoting 3rd party websites that encourage gambling.

It is often that these activities undermine the integrity of the community, violate our user agreements, prey on consumers, are heavily involved in real world trade and could be unlawful. We want to ensure that the Old School community is correctly represented by its content creators and as such, we’ll be working closely with them to begin updating our community guidelines so that it’s clear we’ll no longer work with any individual who participates, advertises, or is associated with any type of Gambling interests for real or digital currencies.

In addition to this, any individual who is found to be participating, advertising, or is associated with any type of Gambling interests for real or digital currencies via RuneScape may lead to their accounts being permanently banned from our services.

As far as I'm caught up with this matter, I'll just share my opinion :p

So he uploaded a first video sponsoring this website and got negative feedback on it. That would already be enough to not do it again. However I feel like Jagex isn't in the right place to say what sponsorships should be ok with the content creators and what's not ok, since this is on youtube and is most likely managed by his network company. (Don't know if Jagex made the statement of the gambling before his 1st vid, after his 1st vid or after his 2nd vid. If that statement was done before his 1st vid, then he/his network company should've just said no because they knew it was breaking rules.)

However the rwt in the 2nd vid is just horrible and as we all know for years is bannable. You might get away with it, you might not get away with it, but if you upload it to 300k+ subs on youtube, it's pretty sure you're getting caught :p

As far as the apology video goes it's just stupid. He speaks only about the money he has made and doesn't give a sh*t about all his work over the past years. Also the ad at the start of the video made it even worse that he's just here for the money and never cared about something else.

Conclusion: Time to find a job

(of course this is all just my opinion ^^ )

Btw if someone knows more about the sponsorships/ads playing on the game you upload, please let me know. Because I haven't found anything online that says something about these things. (meaning that for example jagex can ban your account for advertising sponsored gambling websites on your youtube account)

I just don't see how one video would buy a house outright, ive done sponsored videos on a much lower scale and have friends who've sold out as well lol (albeit much less subs then a friend)

I wouldnt expect one video being enough unless its dirt cheap in his country. Like i doubt he'd get anywhere close to buy a house outright for one vid unless it's going by because he lives in a 3rd world country and it'd be cheap to buy a house outright with a usd payment

Appearently sparc mac got offered 90k usd or some ridiculous amount to do a similar video it just seems crazy to me.

Just to add this is only speculation but he is fully aware of the damage it was going to cause, I'm sure in the deal he had he told the owners of the website he would delete the video just like he did the first one after a few days (doesn't matter after a few days as the retention is already there. He was well aware people would dislike it doing it a second time and probably in the deal that he was allowed to delete the video after a few days

He lives in Lithuania IIRC, so things are pretty much cheaper over there at the moment and they earn a lot less income yearly compared to America, so I've heard.

The thing is, is that he promoted a gambling website and not many people would sell out and promote gambling on their YouTube channel, so I'd imagine that they offered a pretty lump sum of cash for him to sell out like he did, again.

Yeah after i posted it i thought about that and edited a few things. The deal just must have been to good to be true, the thing is he got away with it pretty easily the first time minus getting alot more dislikes on his videos.
Just being greedy but maybe the sum was just too good to refuse, I don't know how much he makes from youtube but it'd have be such a big offer to even consider destroying the channel for it
