The RuneScape Community has spoken!
« on: October 13, 2016, 00:24:30 »
If you're the type of person to hide under a rock whilst playing RuneScape or don't bother checking out /R/RuneScape Reddit, then you may not have known about the recent uproar about the Elite Dungeoneering Skilling Outfit.

In short, tons of players were livid that Skilling Outfits, which should be obtainable IN-GAME, is only available via MTX - Which is absurd.

Anywho, here's the official response in regards to the recent uproar posted by Mod Balance;

Hi everyone,

After looking at our approach for Elite Skilling Outfits and how they are obtained, we are announcing some changes to how you’ll be able to get your hands on these in the future.

We want Elite Skilling Outfits to become a high-level reward for playing relevant game content. Whilst Elite Skilling Outfits will still be obtainable (and introduced via) Treasure Hunter, they will be making their way into the game after a period of exclusivity. After a minimum of 4 months from their initial releases, the Elite Skilling Outfits (including the Dungeoneering outfits) will be obtainable via relevant skills or gameplay as a high-level reward. We are committing to this for any future Elite Skilling Outfits too.

You’ll also be seeing some near-immediate additions to the game, in that we will be making the Gemstone Golem outfit, as well as the Rune Ethereal outfit, obtainable from skill content in 2 weeks’ time (Monday 31st October)! We’ll let you know the ins-and-outs of how you’ll be able to obtain these in the next week.

Ultimately, as we have said in the past, our goal is to balance the commercial success of RuneScape and Jagex with the long-term health of the game. This is one step towards this objective.

Thank you all for your feedback!

All the best,
The RuneScape Team

Note; It has also been confirmed that the Skilling Outfits can be obtained by Ironmen in the future.

Hopefully it's relatively difficult to obtain, otherwise people will have spent money for nothing. I agree they should be introduced in some form after they've had their run on TH.

Trying to think of where they could be added:

(feel free to add if you can think of anywhere)

Ethereal outfit : Runespan shop

Golem: Lava flow mine reward

Shark: Fishing trawler

Chronicle: create using energy?

Dungeoneering: Dungeoneering reward shop

Camouflage:

All looked good until you got to Chronicle :p I really don't think that makes any change to how we get them now; you're just changing the way you get them, the process is the same (buying outfits).

Postpone it like 6 months and make it Menaphos rewards!

I'd like to see them get added to Minigames as a reward, but not the Thaler shop. This should hopefully bring some life back to minigames.

• Farming Outfit - Livid farm or Vinesweeper.
• Dungeoneering Outfit - Sinkholes
• Smithing Outfit - ??
• Mining Outfit - ??
• Crafting Outfit - ??
• Runecrafting - Runespan reward or GOP
• Agility & Thieving - Rogues den?

Etc etc

Hey all,

The design for the elite outfits coming into game has been finalised, and I’m happy to reveal the details for the Gemstone Golem and Rune Ethereal outfits! This design may also be used for future outfits as they’re released.

When you reach level 70 in the appropriate skill, you can speak to the skillcape master for that skill to learn how to collect elite outfit fragments (gemstone golem fragments, etc, different per skill). These fragments will be gathered in the currency pouch when you are training that skill, through any method.

To turn the fragments into the outfit pieces, you’ll need to learn an Invention blueprint, have 20 Invention for the Gemstone Golem outfit and 21 invention for the Rune Ethereal outfit, and level 80 in the associated skill.. The blueprint will not cost any inspiration.
Players with level 99, level 120 and with 200m will receive better chance of receiving the fragments, graded at each level – so level 120 will receive more fragments than level 99, etc.

What’s staying similar to the outfits from TH:
  • The outfit pieces will be one-to-one tradeable
  • The outfit piece you craft will be random, to encourage trading
  • Outfit pieces are reclaimed from Diango
  • If you have all 3 normal outfits they can be combined into the one super outfit
We’re currently looking to release this on the 14th November. Though the original plan was to release within 2 weeks, we have taken extra time to get the outfits just right and make sure it’s suitable.

Hey all,

To summarize a few things, as more comments come in I'll edit in anything else that needs clarifying.

  • The same amount of fragments are required for each piece
  • Ironmen are not able to trade piece for piece, as the rules of Ironman stop them from trading.
  • You won't get duplicate pieces
  • The pieces are not slot locked when trading piece for piece, but have to be from the same outfit.
  • You will still get the blueprints regardless of whether you've got the outfits
  • Interim levels don't affect the obtaining rate, it's a flat increase at 99/120/200m
